Video Transcript:
In 2024 Microsoft rolled out autocorrect and spell check features for the Notepad app, and enabled both by default. While these features have their benefits, they can be annoying if either writing in a different language, working with lines of computer code, or using non-traditional language. Thankfully, if you're not a fan and want to take back control of your text editor, you can easily turn off the autocorrect and spell check features in Notepad.

Step 1. Open the Notepad app on your Windows computer.

Step 2. Click the "Settings" icon in the top right corner of the application to open the Settings menu.

Step 3. Scroll down to the bottom of this menu to the Spelling section. This is where you can toggle off both Autocorrect and Spell Check. When toggled off these features will be disabled immediately.

Thanks for this. I hadn't noticed the settings icon on the right until you pointed it out.

Thanks very much. I turned off Autocorrect globally, but it still was enabled in Notepad.

"There is a settings wheel on the top right" is all the information I needed ... but of course Google suggest this video I have to watch instead of a simple answer...

Ah nice, thanks. It was driving me crazy. AI-implementation of Notepad is wrong. I studied languages and about of the time I don't make grammatical mistakes in my two mother languages (I was raised bilingual). But Notepad keeps changing words into different words. It was bugging me a lot. Thanks for the help, I never actually noticed the toolbox icon in Notepad.

I had turned it off, it came back on again. Since many power users mix their native language with English, this is the most useless feature ever. Even more annoying feature switches itself back on it seems.

I had turned off this setting by setting off in the main settings page, but a week later later my initial choice was overruled by the new separate settings of Notepad itself. Five minutes wasted, but five minutes during my first experiences on this new version of windows. It seems like Marketing needs to relearn the importance of first impressions.
