In 1969, a stranger to Europe, I was travelling by train. I got off at some place I’d never heard called Koln. I only knew of it as Cologne. Came out of the station, walked a few steps and then my eyes just went up and up. The most stunning surprise of the Koln Cathedral. It was absolutely breathtaking and an experience I treasure over 50 years later.

Most stunning, haunting building I've ever been in, or seen. Visited at least half a dozen times in my 7 years in Germany. This building alone is worth the price of a plane ticket.

I was going by train to Berlin from Brussels, then the train stopped at Köln for an 1/2 hour break, so i decided to just have a walk and a coffee outside without knowing that the station is just a few steps from the cathedral. I got out of the station and ahah I swear I almost had an heart attack! It impressed me that much i still have that felling and I suddendly felt in love with one of the most beautiful things ever built by humans. I had goosebumps watching this video. I am from Florence, so i should be pretty used to beautiful buildings but THIS one is REALLY something else.

One of the most Beautiful Cathedrals in the world. When I was stationed in Germany in the army in 1970 we landed in Cologne I never saw it when I was there. What a mistake on my part. My and my Friend were going to go back to Germany after we were discharged, but we did not end up doing it. I would have loved to go back, I loved Germany. Nice people, Beautiful Country and good food.
