This is a first rate book! I learned my astronomy from reading Terence's Nightwatch many decades ago and with my children grown up I have been reacquainting myself with astronomy through this book. There's so much advice, sales pitches and high priced $$$ gear out there, Terence and Alan cut through all this with really sensible advice. Alan Dyer is a local and very active astronomer in the area I live and I am delighted to learn from him through this book and the many video series he produces. I'm lucky enough that I can arrange my travels around the places he talks about.

Got it as well as the 2nd edition and Night Watch! Great books for anyone who is interested in the night sky.

Looks great. Question: For someone like me brand new to the hobby. don't even have a telescope yet, would you recommend starting with this book or your other one "Nightwatch" first?
