Light Sensor circuit on Breadboard + Darkness Detector | LDR & Transistor Projects

A tutorial on How to make a Light sensor circuit and Darkness detector circuit using LDR and transistor, along with detailed explanation on how the circuit works. The sensitivity a.k.a. the brightness at which the LED turns On or Off can also be adjusted using a potentiometer.

This circuit can be used to automatically turn on-off lights or appliances by adding a relay at the output (i.e. at the collector of transistor).

Components Required:
* 1 LDR (Light Dependent Resistor or Photo-resistor)
* 1 npn Transistor (I used BC547)
* Resistors: 470R, 1K (For Light Sensor), 47K (For Dark Sensor)
* Potentiometer (Only if you need adjustable sensitivity): 10K (For Light Sensor), 100K (For Dark Sensor)
* Breadboard
* Power Supply: (3-12)V
* Few Breadboard Connectors

One of the best tutorials on LDR and vivid explanation in a grammatically correct English which is simple and easy to grasp by even a layman like me! Theory, principles involved and a beautiful explanation on the practicals! Thank you so much! Looking forward for more in future!😊

Amazing. I finally got it working after hours and hours. It will not work on an unregulated power supply so I tried a 6V battery and it

Can you plz tell the reason that while using 1K resistor, it's light activated and while using 47K resistor, it's dark activated, why ?? Plz tell

Thank you, perfect for what I'm looking for: My Motorcycle has no fuel warning light so I'll be using this type of cicuit (modified) to detect the presence of fuel in my fuel line just below the fuel tap - I'll be adding a short 'clear' tube to the existing line & then fully enclosing the project, adding a small *𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 adjacent to the LDR on the opposite side of the line (this will then be connected to an LED warning light on my dash). * The idea being that there will be detectable differential in the strength of the *𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙘𝙚 as the clear tube becomes devoid of any fuel.
It will give me time to engage the reserve tank via the tap (as the carburettors hold a small amount of fuel in their float chambers) - there ain't nothing worse than feeling that sudden drop in engine power as you unexpectedly find yourself on empty!!
