As we know, that for all UK visas categories, there are some Immigration rules requirements which the applicant needs to satisfy to obtain a UK visa. One of the basic requirements is to pass an English language test. In this detailed video, We have explained all important aspects of English language test requirement for your UK visas.
🔹 Categories which do not require an English language test: HAPPY DAYS!
There are some categories of visas which do not require English language test requirements, such as
* UK Ancestry Visa
* Temporary worker Visa
* Adult dependent Visa
* Asylum protection
* Domestic abuse application
* Settlement as bereaved partner
🔹 Accepted English language tests:
The five authorised bodies approved by the Home Office which can conduct and mark English language tests are:
1. IELTS SELT Consortium: ‘IELTS for UKVI’ or ‘IELTS Life Skills’
2. LanguageCert: ‘LanguageCert International ESOL SELT’ or ‘LanguageCert Academic SELT’ or ‘LanguageCert General SELT’
3. Pearson: ‘PTE Academic UKVI’ or ‘PTE Home’
4. PSI Services: ‘Skills for English UKVI’
5. Trinity College London: ‘Secure English Language Tests for UKVI’ – Integrated Skills in English (ISE) or Graded Examinations in Spoken English (GESE)
🔹Visa categories and Requirements:
1. There are some visa categories which require one to pass all four components of the test: Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.
- For a skilled Worker Visa, the applicant must pass four components up to B1 level.
- For the Innovator Founder Visa, the applicant must pass four components up to the B2 level.
- For a Student visa, the applicant must pass all four components up to B1 or B2 level.
2. There are some visa categories which require the visa applicant to pass just two components of the English language test: Listening and Speaking.
- For a Partner or Parent visa, the applicant can pass two components up to level A1 or A2. The initial application grade must be A1, and the extension application grade must be A2.
- For the Settlement application, the applicant can pass two components up to level B1.
- For the Citizenship application, the applicant can pass two components up to level B1.
There are no limitations to re-attempting these tests should one fail the exam. You can take this test for an unlimited number of times until you pass it.
🔹 Validity of English Language test:
English language tests are usually valid for only two years.
🔹Exemptions from English Language test requirement:
- If someone holds a UK degree, they satisfy the requirement via their British degree.
- If someone holds a degree that was taught in the English language outside of the UK but certified by the ECCTIS or the UK Naric, they also satisfy the English language test requirement.
🔹 Exemption based on nationality:
Home Office has made the list of countries which are exempted from the English Language test requirement, saying they are majority English language-speaking countries. For details you can see the list on this link:
🔹 Exemption based on age:
If the applicant is aged 65 or over, he is exempted from the English language test.
🔹Exemption based on Health Issues:
If a medical practitioner proves that the applicant’s mental and physical health or due to learning disabilities, the applicant is not able to take the exam, he can be exempted from English language test requirement.
