No, it is actually stage 8.
1 to 1000MW = stage 1, 1001 to 2000 is stage 2, ... 7001 to 8000 is stage 8. The numbers are over 7000 so it is stage 8, not stage 7.

The problem with the grid is not just ageing. The problem is that the grid itself is being stolen.
They are not just stealing a few cables out the ground. They're even stealing the large grid lines!

Much is made about the terrible energy availability factor (EAF) of the poorly maintained coal fleet. And it is bad how they have been neglected and maintained.
However even though most of this coal fleet is now 40 years old it is still performing far better than the new coal power stations and renewables.

Old coal fleet EAF is 40%.
New coal power stations (Medupi and Kusile) EAF is about 30%.
EAF for the wind and solar etc: about 20%

The old coal EAF is only that bad because there has been a deliberate decision to maintain them poorly and divert maintenance budget into the worse-performing renewables.

My question is: they want investments to up the grit but how can countries/institutions give money if it gets stolen? How can you expect that money gets poured into the financial side to help with the crisis but the money goes somewhere else and there is no accountability nor consequences to that?
