It was Mel all along in her belly, notice the little golden shine in the baby near the end of the clip 3:37. That's why the Kindred overlooked Ambessa, Mel had to be born or Mel was already protecting Ambessa before being born.

I guess the lamb symbolizes her innocence, which gets slowly chipped away by war after war and battle after battle. Until it reshapes into the heart of a wolf, creating the battle hardened warrior and conqueror we know today as Ambessa.

After watching act 3 of arcane, my theory is that Mel's saving powers are actually what saved Ambessa here. At the end of the video you can see baby Mel in a womb presumably using her powers for the first time. Also her eyes glow in the same way as when she uses her powers in the show
