Proper job!

I'm not a machinist, but I did a similar job decades ago. I did all operations in the late. I fed the whole rod through the spindle. Turned down the diameters, threaded with a die, lopped it off with a parting blade, loosened the chuck, and fed out a new lenght of rod. A DRO would be awesome for these little jobs, you could even use it to set the stickout of the raw material in the chuck.

Joe
I was doing precision batches like this in the early eighties only difference was I was using a hardinge HLV with 5C Colette’s and a spindle backstop the pins I was making were for Martin baker ejector seat barometric parachute releases but the principal was the same although my tolerance’s were in tenths of a thou. Great channel and video as always and the process you are using is the same as I used.

Nice job mate. Couldn’t remember if you had put a DRO on that machine but would save a bit of time.

Nice little job Joe, like Dermo said below the only thing to sweeten this job would be collets.I broke down and purchased a set years ago and they are a dream to use, also they are more precise than the three jaw which is great for repetition. Cheers and have a nice weekend!

Hey Joe I'm sure you're aware, and someone else had prob already said so, but you should NOT wear gloves while operating a lathe. Also, sleeves should be rolled up. You have a little zipper on your sleeve with a lanyard on it, which could easily cause an injury. I'm sure it's cold, but you should avoid these things as much as possible. The other thing, you should rest the Tommy bar of your die holder on the tool post while threading and not hold it. Just some things to think about. Keep up the good work!

Good job! Yes you did things correct but will work much more accurately if you used collets. Still good though but collets are the way to go.

Good job on the batch Joe! With safety in mind, please reconsider wearing gloves and loose sleeves though when machining.

Man your gunna regret wearing long sleeve’s if it gets caught in that spinning chuck. Safety first man. Really like this channel just don’t want to see something bad happen brother.
