I have fitted Lathams fire doors and they are excellent and really easy to fit. It's good idea though to get someone to help you lift the door into place as they are rather heavy!

Lathams Doors are one of several steel door manufacturers that provide security doors to the construction industry. They are commonly used as fire escape doors on industrial buildings. The doors cost about 2x that of a solid core timber door and apart from much easier fitting they can be had as self finished and with glazing to suit all applications.

The issue about garage security is that the personnel door is not the most vulnerable access point, its the garage vehicle door itself and if its an up and over door they are so easy to open it would make a mockery of adding a steel security door to the side. Internal bolts and padlocks help but not much. The other point of entry is the roof that is simplicity itself. Sorting these two vulnerable access points is equally as important as a personnel door.

One other point worth mentioning is that with the advent of cordless tools thieves can simply use an angle grinder fitted with a cutting disc to get through a steel door. The steel door manufacturers haven't yet caught up with security for that one.

Do they do garage doors to the same standard of security, as I've had my garage broken into twice and both times, it wasn't the side door they used to break in but the garage door, which despite every security device I have found for garage doors, they are basically too easy to break/bypass. Just think it's no good just door the entrance door without the grarage door?

The single skin wall is weaker than the door so maybe a pole of wood and a jack can push it through.
Just a thought, i would just add some reeds and a PIR or two and add it to spare circuits on my burglar alarm. And a couple of IR cameras with an alert zone wired to the alarm system will double cover what needs protection and ober half of these type of thefts are by someone the owner knows.
The steel door is off putting but a determined thief will always think outside the box.

Oh..must be the part where you stihl saw 150mm offa the right hand side of the doorway so this security door will fit 😂 oh and average punter will be lucky to get that work done for under a grand from a rip off 'bricky', but hey luckily your top lintl was long enough to not need replaced...yh nice door mate but your average person looking for diy tips is not getting the full story here...go steady people ..
