Gaijin's Awful Economy Changes

Показать описание
It's that time of the year again. The War Thunder community was presented with a choice: either the economic rewards for matches (research points and silver lions) could remain the same, or loss rewards could be increased to the detriment of win rewards. Any veteran War Thunder player will tell you that rewards need to be raised across the board, but that wouldn't produce as much money for Gaijin. The community tore itself up fighting over which terrible option was the "correct" one, but the joke is on all of us because RP rewards were cut overall. Now everyone is earning less regardless of how much you win. But hey, at least some repair costs aren't as bad as before, right?

Feel like there were some things I could've said better, like clarifying my position on the actual vote itself. Personally, I don't really mind making less on wins, but I was never much into grinding tech trees anyway. While the new repair cost system is working wonders for ground RB, it appears it's much less kind to air RB players. I'm hoping they can stabilize that situation in the future. The main thing is that the reduction to the base RP multiplier isn't doing anyone any favors, it's just making a bad situation even worse.

“If all the vehicles could be obtained in a few weeks, it wouldn’t be fully enjoyable.”

So we decided to make it take years to even do one tech tree for one nation, because it’s fun that way.

Of course they did. This is not a surprise, Gaijin has never granted something to the community without a "monkeys-paw" sort of mentality. You get your wish granted, the monkey's paw curls up, and something you never mentioned changes.

It’s really infuriating how Gaijin’s official response says slight improvements to RP gain mean players unlocking everything in a few weeks. Hell, they haven’t even officially understood how their events are time sinks akin to second jobs. Honestly, there’s no way the decision makers at Gaijin don’t know this. They’re just hiding behind the thin veneer of ignorance, all the while instigating community infighting to defend themselves. All this dishonesty, abuse, and manipulation is just too much…

*Don’t feel bad. Gaijin deserves to be hated every second they make a poor decision like this. They also deserve to be congratulated whenever they make a good decision, but that never happens. They’ve done this to themselves.*

i disagree with the "top tier russian vehicles getting proper repaircosts", the issue isnt with the russian vehicles having too low repaircost, its with everything else having too damn high of a repaircost

Intentionally creating disasters out of pure malice is Gaijin's specialty. Never assume incompetence when they've proven themselves otherwise.

What I'm getting out of this is...

Players: The grind is too long.

Gaijin: Players won't enjoy the game unless the grind is long, so we'll make it longer.

I occasionally come back to the game for a month and them I'm out. Every time, it's the grind that gets me. The core gameplay is enjoyable, but it's surrounded by what feels like predatory money-grabs and an endless grind... And this is coming from someone who did 3000hrs+ in Planetside2 over many years of paid membership. I can pay and I can grind, but War Thunder's ROI is abysmal.

I feel like they would end up making more money actually decreasing the time to grind, a lot of people I've talk to about the game who didn't want to play all said it was because it's too grindy. I feel actually decreasing the grind would attract more players to the game. But corporations don't see it like that, it's more "Lets squeeze more money out of them, sure we lose some players but the more money will cover that." They keep doing this until no one will want to play the game, but keep seeing it as a net positive. They are lost.

What is the funniest thing to me, is that when the second vote was posted some people mentioned "Hey some of these numbers are kind of dumb they should be higher"
And then a moderator replied "Well there was a vote for that if you wanted different you should've voted"
Except... the things they could vote for were 2 options. and neither of them were higher... I want to know what that moderator is smoking.

"I'm sorry if I sound Jaded, and I know I already give Gaijin a lot of flak, but I'm tired of seeing this played out time and time again"

I have one thing to say:
You're perfectly justified in doing so. Gaijin does not care about the average opinion from average joe like myself, but they should care about their Content Creators Opinions. They are one of the reasons their game expands. Yes, I'm sure someone will argue it's their aggressive ad campaign via YouTube, but WT relies on their CCs more than they'd like to let on.

Your point is perfectly valid.

Great vid! I'll go ahead and thank Gaijin for not giving me reasons to come back to the game after over a year without playing it. I'll just keep my money and my time! (or spend it on something that's worth the effort)

The fact that they really think a few weeks is all it takes with higher gains, is so infuriating I can feel every nerve and vein in my brain thumping.

gaijin: lets make vehicle tier based repair costs!
community: whoa, that sounds great! go for it!
gaijin: *changes vehicle repair costs at random regardless of tier*
community: -_-

That justification tells me that Gajin has no confidence in their game as a game, as in they don't think the game can stand on its own merits so they have to introduce frustration mechanics to make money. Problem is, war thunder's core gameplay loop is solid enough to stand on its own and still make bank without frustration mechanics.

honestly, an easy way around all the drama without making win vs loss bonus irrelevant would be to keep the defeat rewards the same but give the top 1, top 3, or all with above X score on the losing team higher rewards, basically saying "its not your fault you lost, you tried your best". but that would be a net increase in payouts, and god knows we cant have that

Thank you for being so blatant about Gaijin's mentality for their game. And don't apologise for being "harsh"... Gaijin and it's playerbase normalising shitty developer practices isn't a good thing and exactly what Gaijin wants so we infight instead of directing our greviences to Gaijin.

Don't give them an inch anymore. We've been doing that for 10 years and look at where it's gotten us.
