I decided to put Ultimate Guitar on the search window to see what would come up and this video was one of the first.

I have had a guitar all of my life and I'm near the 60 mark and had only learned 2-3 chords in all of that and no matter how much I tried, I was never comfortable making chords nor never fully understood the guitar neck plus making a B chord, forget it...Then covid hit along with a long term work injury and being inspired by Phill Connors, (no not Phill Collins, Phill Connors from Groundhog Day) then I decided learn the piano and bought a 2nd hand Casio 88 keys keyboard which I run through Logic pro on my Mac, and wammo, I'm playing a Steinway. 10 months after taking it up, it finally hit me how it works and now 18 months I can tell you all about chords triads, sus, aug, dim plus I invented a new way to learn the scales because what was out there this way to learn whole, half whole half half half stuff was not working for me. Now all I do is use my pattern and straight away I can work out the scale of any key...But with Ultimate Guitar I found a way to play music and though my technique will need a lot of work for the rest of my life, I can quickly produce the finger pattern to follow the tune so yeah, Ultimate Guitar has been a revelation for an amateur like me...I was telling my nephews wife a few months ago that I was playing chords which help me to not only enjoy playing my piano, and she gave me this face like, nah! that's not the way...I guess she expects me to learn to play like Elton, and at my age? Ridiculous...Anyway Yes mate, I agree about Ultimate Guitar and most of those Tabs/Chords are ok though sometimes you have to transpose. I don't understand why there would be such a difference if the composer of the Tab is trying to play the song in the right key...But I love it though I wish there was one for piano. I wonder if classical music from Mozart or Bethhoven was abled to be played with chords? To learn to read music at my age, well I wouldn't have time to play music...Besides I remember Mark Knoffler once saying that his keyboard players never learned to read music...

Cheers mate and sorry for the long message.

Thank you, for this video. I cannot tell from the piano chord illustrations on UG whether the chord is up from C or down from C. I saw your answer to Ender Elohim, but I am interested in knowing how to read what the author intended. My "style" is not very good, apparently, because my wife keeps saying, "that doesn't sound right". and I say "I know, but I don't know how to fix it". When I "experiment" with my "style" to fix it, by the time I'm done a song like Hallelujah sounds more like Highway to Hell. Is there a way to know the intentions of the author without a middle C indicator? If not, will you please suggest to UG that a middle C indicator is missing? Thank you!
