The top of the mountain, its time for a Burst! This beauty is a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard, in totally original condition (except for the repro tuners currently on the guitar, for usability - originals in the case!). A stunning top, great color, and classic PAF sound, this instrument is a dream. Today we have Nick here to demo it through a really great 2012 Dr Z Prescription amp - extra strength!

Agree with the comments about the unfortunate amp. Wish we could’ve heard it Bloomfield style, through a cleanish Twin, to really hear this insanely clean 500K Grail.

Doesn't sound as bad as some people are making it out to be. I think it would be badass to hear it through a Hiwatt though. There's a zeppelin show where page was using a Hiwatt and it was more aggressive sounding to me than their regular sound

The other commenters need to chill a little. This is a major collector's item that won't get played much by the new owner unless he/she is a major rock star that can afford the probably half million dollars this thing will cost. The electronics are 62 years old. They're probably a bit tired. That's a great guitar that's earned its keep.

Tend to agree with many of the comments here, great guitar, but these things are so versatile, clean, dirty or crunch on the amp, but the great thing with Les Pauls is in playing with the volume & tone knobs. It may have had a lot more to give & maybe through another amp.

love that nasty guitar straight>amp tone—dude is a great player. His understanding of dynamics at volume in a rock/blues context makes for effective demos. Also, most importantly—he doesn’t noodle. He plays shit he knows well and “performs” the stuff. Keep him on the payroll!

So, you have a mint 59' burst that's easily worth mid six figures, some say its worth as much as $700, 000, and this is the amp you chose? Talk about a facepalm moment. The only reason why this guitar doesn't sound like complete garbage is because the dude playing it is a damn good player.

Gang, a guitar like this should be played through a Matchless or a Dumble or a Hiwatt or preferably, a vintage 60's Fender or a vintage 60's Marshall.

Great playing and an awesome sound! Still. How often does a guitar like this come around, and 5.15 is all we get? With no cleans?? These guitars are uniqely versatile instruments due to factors we don't get to enjoy in this particular video. Bursts are one of my absolute favourite things on earth, and I rely on channels like this to feed my addiction and curiosity, because I cannot afford to get near one myself. This video left a lot to the imagination for sure. Again; great playing Nick Martin, good job! I just want more of this beautiful instrument.

Is it just me, or is this not the best amp to demo the grail? Sounds like the doctor has Cx (look it up) and not the correct Rx….
