Anyone else think it’s ironic that a video about dogs not liking being pet on their heads, shows dogs being pet on their heads in almost every single clip? And, might I add, every one of them look like they’re thoroughly enjoying it! 🤷‍♀️

I've had dogs all my life. They all lived long and happy lives. Who knew I've been doing it wrong for damn near 80 years !

CORRECTION: Dogs do love being petted on the head. The problem with it is when humans approach a dog from above them and try immediately to pet them on the head. That can be perceived by the dog as intimidating or aggressive and rightly so. When a human wishes to pet a dog, they should first allow the dog to come to them and not the other way around. Then, start by extending the hand to pet under the chin and cheek of the dog. If the dog likes it (and they'll let the human know), then you can gently make your hand move up to the head of the dog, down it's back, and pat the side around the shoulder. Slow, gentle deliberate movements. Again, dogs do like to be petted on the head by humans they have come to trust. They love it because it feels good. If it didn't feel good to them, they would pull away, tense up, or give other signs of discomfort. A good way to tell if a dog likes how you're petting him is if his mouth is open into what looks like a smile and the eyes are soft and half closed. The ears are also an indication. If the ears are back, flat, not up in an alert mode, this is a sign of a relaxed dog. AND I know all these things and much more because I have spent (and still do) countless hours with dogs of various breeds, sizes and temperaments.

My dogs love to have their heads scratched and especially massaged . Hmmm? My dog absolutely melts… I don’t buy it

I've had two basset hounds, a mutt, and a Lab/Great Pyrenees mix. All of them loved head pats, hugs, chest scratches, and belly rubs.

Funny thing is my dog loves head pets. She will stick her nose in my open hand and moves my hand so it’s on top of her head!

i rescued an old westie highland white terrier "westie" I would massage her shoulders, she found it really helpful. She would sit in front of me, so she could have chosen to walk away at any time. She would have had me there for hours if she could have. Im disabled too now after a terrible accident and 2 operations. My dad is reike master and did therapy sessions with her. She enjoyed that too. She was a breeder on a puppy farm and an beautiful soul, another dog lover said, that you made the last 6 years of her life the best. I did my best fore her, she was much loved and walked daily, without fail. Our clever little old lady too. She is much missed. xxx

My dog loves it and will actually guide my hand to his head to be petted.

My dog likes to be scratched behind his ears but doesn’t like his head rubbed, so I don’t pet him there and I don’t let others touch his head.

My dog loves his head petted. I normally do it when he is laying in bed with me. If I stop he puts his head under my hand for more.

This is the silliest crap I've heard! This person needs to meet my dogs! My lab absolutely loves her, and my blue healer believes that the harder the better!

Smelly Belly knew that people would disagree with this video. And when people disagree they jump on and write comments. And this is great for the YouTube algorithm. Look at how many views this video got right away. So yeah pretty smart.

Great video! As a long time dog owner I learned some new things. Thanks.

Yeah I agree with some others here. Dogs are always putting the top of their head in my hand rather than me putting my hand on their heads. It all depends on the dog and how they are treated, but they have always warmed up and sought head pets from me.

When I stop petting my dog's head, he comes back to my hand and nudges me to continue! He clearly LOVES me petting his head! His paws however, are a different story!

This is a good video. My dog loves being petted, but hates being petted on the head. I can see when others try to pet his head that they are completely looming over him and he pulls back. If they ask why he does that I ask how they would like a giant looming over them trying to grab their head!
