As a young dumb service line kid (19 years old) I learned real quick about the horizontal glare. The pilot took off and was ranting on the mic about it, he then came back around and landed. He was cussing me before he even crawled out the plane. He was an ass anyways and was rushing me the entire time BUT it was definitely a learning experience. I was so glad to see him take off and head home to Michigan or wherever he came from. I must say, out of all the pilots I've dealt with he was one of just a few with an attitude. Seems like pilots typically have a pretty good personality. I guess if you can afford a plane, what can they really be bitter about? Haha.

Nice videos brother ! Tho I no longer do it, I love keeping up with it. I still have relationships with a lot of those pilots so I still go up with them from time to time. It will always be a part of me and my life.

Also in the event of a scratch we can see through a vertical scratch easier than horizontally. Also NEVER swirl on plexi. I always used Meguiars SctatchX heavily to fill any microscratches on my plane. I let hit haze like crazy then buff vertically with my microfiber. The stuff works great for aircraft plexiglass and I may or may not be responsible for hooking my entire airport on it.... and the answer to your question is it's called a Spinner! Love your videos!

I’m detailing my first plane on Thursday for a guy who I’ve done his cars for a while. I’ve been doing some research and am feeling good about it. Just nervous about the windshields from everything I’ve read. What armorall product are you using or do you recommend to clean the windshield with? Thanks

I certainly would not use armorall glass cleaner (even if it ammonia free) > Cleaning soft perspex or plexiglass craft window nor would I polish it...A pro should know all about the material they are cleaning first and foremost. Glad they paid you...

FAA even has literature concerning auto detailers converting to cleaning planes as planes are a different animal entirely. Also, your chemicals need to be FAA approved. Watch out for pitot tubes and static ports as well as deicing elements that exist on the leading edges of wings. Clog those things up or get a lot of fluid in them and you might be responsible for the death of whoever is riding in that plane when the equipment fails due to poor knowledge of aviation detailing.

You also want to have all potential scratches going in the same direction. Windscreens (windshield) are typically made of acrylic and if something were to happen to that windscreen to where it was unusable, its not like they can call up safelight and have them replace it like they have them laying around in a warehouse somewhere. They are custom made and very expensive to manufacture and install, as is everything else on a plane. Insurance is a must for aviation detailing and insurance is very expensive as well. so aviation detailing is not for everyone and you mess up one thing on a plane and it could potentially end your business without insurance.

One thing to note, That stuff scratches very easily .

Spinner...the “cone thing”; acrylic/plexiglass, the windshield material - good tip about only vertical lines on windshield, thanks!

Horizontal Streak can be confused with horizon line

Pilot and detailer here thank you for pointing out the streak on the windshield LoL 😂

also another tip Scott, if you clean it in circular motions that also is a no-no. causes the same swirl marks as in paint and also decreases visibility when the sun hits the planes windshield.

Scott, the description for the silver cone is Spinner.

nuvite and a buffer will make that spinner like bumper chrome haha! seriously loving the aircraft vids super stoked, btw you are about to blow up, no one else in the aircraft industry is putting videos like this out there. you can be set for life if you get yourself a contract with one of these flight departments in DFW, how does cleaning a private jet after every trip sound? forget cars altogether your life is gonna change I bet you a million!

A few extra knots of speed after detailing? Better start detailing my car for those precious extra mph and mpgs...

Great videos Scott. I may have to go to the local airport and leave some cards now. Would plexus work on aircraft windows? Thanks again!

I did a number of years in line service and if you didn't do exactly as you suggested, vertical straight up and down swipes, you wouldn't have a job for very long. We used a plastic polish that went on much like car wax and came off the same. It worked well, but always up and down.

Hey you missed a few hairs between your knuckles when you trimmed your hairy hands, and by the way.... you only use Plexus or similar plastic polish on plexiglass just say'n

Now trim the rest of them knuckle hairs

Congrats on 19k subs. 50k then 100k are right around the corner. And for the douche nozzles out there who complain about your videos being too long, this is a auto DETAILing channel, not an auto GISTing channel. It's DETAILED. And no one who owns an airstrip, a $350k plane or a $350k RV would never use a hack or someone who doesn't know what they're doing. Keep making your vids and we'll keep watching. Love it!! And as a 2nd career you can do stand-up as Ray Romano.
