There are new signs that congressional Democrats may be nearing an agreement on President Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan. A key part of that plan is universal pre-kindergarten. A CBS News poll shows that two-thirds of Americans support it. Nancy Cordes has more.

"CBS Evening News with Norah O'Donnell" delivers the latest news and original reporting, and goes beyond the headlines with context and depth. Catch the CBS Evening News every weekday night at 6:30 p.m. ET on the CBS Television Network and at 10 p.m. ET on CBSN.

No such thing as universal pre-k. Its universal cradle to grave

This is sad. Breaking up the family even more by shoving toddlers behind a desk all day and putting flash cards in front of their face. Goodbye childhood. Let the state raise your children. It's easier, right?

I thought Democrats were going to pay for these programs thru greater corporate taxation. If that is out the door, who is going to pay for these programs?

If you want to reduce prison populations, invest in Head Start / Universal Pre-K.

this is a good idea but as I said what about people who lost their homes and businesses because the local governments have Democratic states decided to shut everything down

If that's the case then why do we have inner cities?
I live there I grew up there. I didn't have preschool but I did have kindergarten and I managed to graduate high school and attend University in California of all places.
I was blessed to have a private Christian education that I'm still paying for 17 years later but my point is is it really the Pre-K or is it something better that we're not talking about like intact families with a mom and a dad.
Now my mom took us to church because they were divorced point is there was support with actual people because we all know what happens when you grow up in the inner City there's way too many temptations to avoid.
Without strong convictions Pre-K doesn't do anything. As kids get older yeah they do need a place to go to but unfortunately churches are not allowed to have their doors open not that way anymore.
we no longer have after-school programs till 6:00 p.m. like they did when I was a kid so at least your mom or dad could pick you up
