Libreboot Trolls FSF With New Canoeboot Project

A while back I talked about some fun drama between libreboot's developer Leah Rowe and a couple of FSF people and Leah is back to mess around again with a very petty project called Canoeboot.

Leah approaches this in just the right way: Instead of complaining about GNU Boot, she complains and then does everything 10x better, fixing all the issues and explaining why it is still garbage.
She really _did_ prove a point here.

At least the FSF is being consistent here. Canoeboot meets all their requirements, so it should be listed.

As much as we like to laugh at the FOSS foundation for there super strict policies.
I am pretty sure that their stance on the far end of the scale and being strict is what helps equalize and give us a very livable middle ground and even make Linux work for us.
So while I never will run a system according to their specifications, I am still greatful for them being there, they keep others a bit more "honest" in their ways.

The fact that _boot_ is the German and Dutch word for _boat_ makes the name _canoeboot_ even better

I hope this isn't the last chapter. I'm enjoying this petty software drama :) I wish I had hardware I could run libreboot on, but I unfortunately do not.

The way as I see it is that GNU is a compass. It shows the right direction. Now it often happens that the "right" direction goes through a wall or worse a death trap. So GNU guidelines should not be always followed and it is useful to have a project that is practical, and keep that project separate because GNU people are often a bit crazy. But that does not means the compass is useless and we should just throw it away or being petty against how stupid it is.

Unironically chromebooks are the best devices to put coreboot on. They are modern unlike the thinkpads with coreboot support, and the ec firmware is fully opensource.

I agree with Leah's final point that amounts to don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Still seems like a lot of time and effort that could have better spent than "I can implement your dumb idea better".
