I love photography and I love Olympus and micro four thirds. But like many, I wasn't always an Olympus or micro four thirds photographer. This video, I explain some of my personal reasons why I made the switch to micro four thirds and Olympus. Do you share the same ideas? What's your reasons to choose micro four thirds? #photography #microfourthirds #olympus

My reasons are exactly the same as yours except for one, age! At 70 yo I was needing to choose what to take out with me and it was becoming a drudge to carry the weight with my Z6+. the change to Olympus is like having a new lease of life (and a smaller bag). Love all your videos, keep 'em coming.

The size, weight, IBIS, image quality, price and portability made M43 my obvious choice.

My first MFT was a OM-D E-M10ii bought for travel photography due to size and weight. The 14-40 EZ pancake zoom and 40-75 lightweight zoom together with the body weighed so little it was a joy to walk around New York all day carrying it, same with a trip to Sydney and then Iceland. A side benefit was that I liked the system so much and was so impressed by the image quality compared to an ageing APS-C SLR that I converted completely. Then came lockdown and the need to make movies for work. What a great system, I added second body - the E-M5ii so I had 2 camera angles in a single shoot and just grew from there. Lockdown also gave time for my hobby to grow. So my journey has now come full circle and I have the amazing E-M1iii, a selection of lenses and a renewed hobby as I retire - I still have that E-M10ii though for everyday carry as it leaves smartphone pics in the dust. All helped and encouraged by videos by Jimi and other ambassadors. - thanks all.

Compact, innovative, bulletproof and grrrreat image quality! Ex military vet and these this system is what I enjoy....all my lenses fit in 1 pack and render more image quality than 98% of people can even notice....plus Stabilisation is king! No more stands! Thanks red 35 for you dedication and inspiration..a couple of years ago it is you that has lit back my artistic flame and permitted me to see and share life in a more human way...thanks mate! Nice to see you persevere....sometimes life is tough....

Even though I sold all my M43 gear for Fujifilm, there is without doubt one thing that gives M43 a strength that no other digital camera has: The native 4:3 ratio. When I moved to Fujifilm for the Xtrans sensor, the things that hit me hardest were the pricier lenses and also the different aspect ratio. I used M43 solely for 5 years and the 4:3 just cannot be beat in my opinion, great for portraits and landscape, a very unique look.

Interesting insight. I'm an Olympus pro kit owner too. For all the reasons you highlight, I wholeheartedly agree that the M4/3 format has a strong stance in the world of practical photography. Nice work.

A very important insight into what is critical and essential in effective performance " Innovative Exemplary Design in Form and Function " and Olympus excels in both ! 🙏

All great points and many are the exact reasons I now use Olympus & MFT.

What I like about Olympus is colour, weather sealing, image stabilization, and the glass. Olympus makes excellent optics, with a very good value for the dollar. I hope the brand continues to thrive!

I am the truly new to photography, I chose this system first based on price. And after educating myself on basics and different camera brands and platforms, my needs were basic. I wanted a camera I could use to document my family life and adventures but also something I could grow from. I own the om-d mark iv. I really like the size and portability. I also like the combination control functions that allow me to point and shoot when needed, because I programmed camera beforehand. I love your videos and info keep up the great work much love!

Well put, I could not have said it better. Pick the tool you need for the job in hand. I have also taken some of my best photos with my phone . Does that mean that I can retire my camera - well, no. Adaptability and awareness contribute as much as visualisation . I can also recall taking two bags on shoots . Now, I have one body a couple of lenses and my phone . I don’t miss the weight and I can still capture some brilliant shots.

Thanks Jimmy

IBIS

That was the main reason why, when I switch from DSLR to mirrorless in 2015, I choose Olympus OM-D over other systems (particularly, Fuji XT series at that time).

Six years later, still using two OM-D bodies, one of them is EM10mkii and is the first mirrorless camera I bought in 2015.

And those OMDs really could withstand abuses over the years. They've survived getting tossed in the bag, dropped to the floor (or ground/tarmac), work under low temperature and high humidity, under the rain (drizzle, never brought them under a storm :D ), in a dusty desert, and on the sea (with lots of sea breeze). Only the EM10mkii has developed problem with the rear screen (the flexible connector cable seems to be broken). Surprisingly, the even older EM1mki that I've bought 2nd hand still survived without any problems despite it was the one that I abused a lot in rather inhospitable environment.

Currently still looking for a reasonable priced Pen-F since it was difficult to get in 2nd hand market. Even if they appear on online marketplace, it usually was gone within 2-3 days (or sometimes the seller ask for ridiculous price).

I love my OMD system. I was shooting an MMA match with a friend of mine who was using a different brand. I programmed my Oly to ignore the ropes (focus distance). Plus with that Pro Capture mode I was able to get some VERY incredible results (face kicks, sweat flying, expressions from knockout punches, etc...). I wouldn't trade it for anything. This system is exactly what works for me. He couldn't believe it :)

Agree 100%. We get asked often about IQ..just picked up some 20x30in prints I have had done . I resized the files 2x in Topaz Gigapixel and cropped that file, you would swear the image came from a medium format camera file. My next print will be from a HiRes shot, can't wait to see the result. Bugger big cameras and gear, I shoot equestrian show jumping, usually over an 8 hr day, I can still lift my M1mkiii and 40-150 pro at the end of the day and 4000 shots. Can't say the same for the Canon shooters I work with.
