The session will transition to a digital presentation focused on the diagnostic approach, including manometry, barium esophagram, and endoscopy. Finally, we will review the management strategies for Esophageal Motility Disorders, emphasizing pharmacological treatments, endoscopic procedures like pneumatic dilation or botulinum toxin injection, and surgical options such as myotomy. Not a student, someone suffering with achalasia, I got some extra info. It's good to know there are some Drs getting educated on it. It's hard dealing with a whole life change from this invisible disease on it's own, trying to find someone who knows what it is is even harder

I was Dx with Jackhammer Esophagus after years of GI Dr gaslighting when scoping esophagus, ballooning esophagus based on discomfort described and ultimately disregarding another barium swallow study interpretation of a surgeon. I wanted to share a “less common” symptom I was having & was seen with my Mayo Clinic Dr . I had difficulty swallowing and feeling like something was stuck in my upper throat like a bread ball. They did a swallow study with a benign circular tablet to watch its decent and saw it literally stuck in the middle of the esophagus. Water, applesauce and a viscous liquid couldn’t dislodge it. The fluids just slowly worked around the tablet. I didn’t feel pain mid esophagus~ I felt that bread ball stuck high up in my throat feeling. That is uncommon.
I also had incredibly forceful belching that were so explosive I couldn’t pinch my lips closed to mitigate the abrupt sound. I sounded like an elephant trumpeting from the force of the air escaping. If I couldn’t catch it before erupting I sounded like a guy belching loudly after drinking a carbonated drink!
If laying down or lounging the spasms can happen causing a tight painful chest, then when I sit up or stand I have a cascade of rolling burping which releases the painful pressure that built up.
Also treatment tried was peppermint (didn’t help), not too hot or cold liquids consumed (didn’t affect +\-), but Rx Tadalafil does help relax the spasms the most. I do get random mid chest pain that is crushing & choke often when eating or drinking from intense contraction during swallowing along with stabbing pain mid center back like food is sharp & stuck.

great video, not a student but experiencing strong dysphasia with tired feeling every time I eat with food being stuck feeling but also more recently not being able to swallow saliva laying down and doc think I might be dealing with achalasia, one thing your videos had mentioned was EOE. My son was diagnosed with EOE at 1 year old, soo I am definitely curious of the results with my GI doc. Awaiting Barium swallow test. Awesome Video, fun to watch you have a great approach to explaining the topics you talk about.

I had an Upper GI with Esophageal dysmobility, noting tertiary contractions through the mid to distal esophagus. Is this why I have trouble sometimes swallowing, it feels like the food does not go down normally?
