Malaysia will extend its nationwide lockdown by two weeks. The movement control order had been due to end on June 14, but will now continue until June 28. The number of COVID-19 cases and deaths has remained high despite two weeks of tight restrictions. Nearly 7,000 new infections were reported on June 11, after two days of dipping below 5,000. Meanwhile, the King has held meetings with political leaders to discuss the government's handling of the pandemic.

The number one official position is under threat not only from the oppositions, but from within his own coalition parties. And, covid-19 have been a convenient and timely tool for preserving his position since he was sworn into office.

Maybe a false flag event can be expected for declaring martial law.

When Malaysia went into the first lockdown, there were only hundreds of daily cases & it took 6 weeks to bring the numbers down. Now with thousands of cases, there is doubt this extension will work.

The government should find some other ways to contain the virus rather than lock down. People are almost suffering and their pockets are drying up.

Malaysia is in the spotlight for so many things. One of the few things Malaysia has been doing right was to extend the MCO to get the virus under control. One thing it has not gotten correct was neglecting to take care of the lower income or B40 group first since they tend tobe at higher risk.--just something for parlaiment to consider.

“Before we decide whether to extend the current MCO, we have to ask whether the ongoing MCO has effectively slowed down or reduced the number of positive cases."
“Any implementation of the MCO, whether extended or otherwise, must be complemented with pragmatic exit plans and strategies so that the lockdown and the efforts of the frontliners would not go in vain and that the adverse impacts on the recovery of our fragile economy could be kept at minimal, ”

All the imagined economic benefits of CECA can't outweigh Singapore's potential future of following in Malaysia's footsteps.

The first two weeks is a joke. Malaysian are very intelligence people. When that is announce everybody knows it is too short a MCO to actively to have an effective curb. Now, another two weeks make some sense. The business community need to take cue from the government and not bullshit.

Nice to see Malaysia taking a responsible role in Covid Management! I support the extension if it can save lives. Lockdown forever will make the Malaysia G very happy with no elections.
