The Hyundai Tucson was updated in 2024 to keep it looking fresh alongside newer rivals. With new lighting at the front of the car, and an appealing new interior design, the Tucson certainly looks the part. But can it compete with newer rivals from BYD and MG that undercut it on price?

I ignored the MG because it is at the bottom of reliable surveys and the Tuscon is a much higher quality than the Chinese cars. I love the physical controls on the Tuscon which knocks the spots of most other modern cars . My only regret in buying the N-line hybrid is I didn't buy the top of the range N-line S to avoid giving the governent and extra 2K over 6 years in luxury (what a joke) car tax. The cabin is a delight with modern yet practical controls and I am happy to drive it in auto cruise control most of the time which works really well.

I had test drives in lots of different brands when I was looking to transition from the German brands which I’d owned for 25 years (Now too expensive and the local dealers are up their own arses), and settled on the Tucson N Line S, which I’ve had for 2 years now. Fantastic car!

I had the base model just before the facelift (nx4?), you all say its not a sporty car and im wondering if you have ever driven it hard. To be honest after 2 years it still makes me smile when I drop a gear (manual) and floor it .. its a heavy SUV, its a larg'ish SUV, .... but it still goes well when you push the peddle and drive it like you stole it. Likewise I had a Kona curtesy car for a couple of days and found it sluggish in comparison but I feel the auto box lets the cars down, its slow to change and slow to pick up ...

I’m leaving VW cars (over 15 years) where nothing is standard to a car that has more of everything, the Hyundai Tuscon. The big car giants need to take note, there is better out there now for way less.

On my 3rd tuson now on ultimate hybrid always found good value for money

On our 3rd Tucson. Had an NX3, the pre facelift NX4 Ultimate and got the facelift Ultimate Hev a month ago. Not sure any car is perfect, but imo the facelift is a big improvement inside and also quieter than the pre facelift. They’re a great all rounder really.

Definitely wouldn't get the BYD and MG. Hyundai much better quality and resale price. The byd and mg resale would be shit. And as a mechanic myself Hyundai is a much better car in reliability, safety, maintenance. Resale. And quality

We have a Tucson Hybrid N Line, it’s excellent. My wife had a short term hire car which was an MG of equivalent size. The MG was adequate but certainly not up to the same standard of comfort and finish as our Tucson. The MG felt what it was, a cheaper SUV. Price is such an important factor but living with a car is also very important and I feel the higher price of the Hyundai was worth the financial pain.

We have the 2024 N line on lease. Only issue is that I didn’t buy it instead because it’s got everything! If you are to get one the lights are not great at night.

Nobody is buying new cars just now according to market reports . It is stating that private buyers are shunning new car purchases and the level is at the same as pre covid levels. £40, 000 is a lot of cash to put out whether cash or on finance.
