THE DIVIDED CAPITAL OF CYPRUS - NICOSIA CITY TOUR

Did you know that Nicosia or Lefkosia is the capital city of Cyprus and also is the world´s only partitioned or divided capital? It is also the furthest southeast of all capital cities in the European Union. If you are new to the history of Cyprus there has been a lot of conflict between the Greek- and Turkish Cypriots through history. UN has created a so called "buffer zone" which divides the country in to a northern Turkish section and a southern Greek area. This line goes right through Nicosia, dividing the city in to two parts. There are around 320 000 people who live in the city, and the area has been continuously inhabited for over 4500 years. In this travel vlog from Cyprus I bring you along on a city tour of the divided capital of Cyprus, Nicosia, and share my tips on what to see and do. I show you the best sigths, we get to learn more about the history of the city and where to get the best city views. Normally you are able to walk over the border to the Turkish side via the border crossing on Ledra Street. I also share a restaurant reccomendation that you do not want to miss out on.
