Dell Type-C Dock (WD15) Unboxing + Cube i9 Test

Dell Type-C Dock. Looking for a decent Type-C hub that will charge, has display out (HDMI or DP) and USB 3 ports. Sadly, the Cube i9 doesn't work with this one.

Looks like the tablet you use doesn't support USB-C displayport alternate mode, which is what this dock use. Because this dock works with the new mac as well as Lumia 950, both support displayport alt mode thru USB-C.So I would suggest you try one of the USB-C to Hdmi/DisplayPort adaptor (around usd$10) to see if this tablet support USB-C DP alt mode .

I suspect the problem is that Cube i9 does not have a DP output muxed into the Type-C connector.

Simply, the Type-C connector carries USB3.1 as a base spec, then "Alternate Modes" of DisplayPort and/or Thunderbolt3. For DP to work, it must be physically muxed in from the GPU itself to some of the cable pairs and the controller switches them around on the fly. This is quite common for higher end devices but I'm not surprised the Cube lacks it. Most of the time these will be specifically described as "combo ports".

The only other way to get video outs would be to have a basic GPU onboard (similar to old USB 2.0 graphics adapter/dongles with VGA/DVI etc).

Did any of you try out the Dell D6000. It works really well with my Huawei D14 which displayed the exact behavior as the tablet in the video when connected to the WD15. The downside to the the D6000 is that the dock has no power button. But...on the bright side...i have 3 monitors now:D . Cheers!!!

In the forums on your site there is a link to a optimized bios that gets updated very frequently. One of the last updates was about HDMI. It probably wont work for you displayport but it is worth a try.
Also to get usb type C to hdmi working I had too restart the device multiple times before it actually works. It could be the same problem with displayport.

Hmmm try the bios I recall seeing Intel(R) Thunderbolt at the end of the list, Intel Thunderbolt Technology is set to [Fully Disabled] if you Enable you get a large number of options which i hope will help.

Did you try this dock with your HiBook? I realize it's not full 3.1 but still curious if the display works or not.

Does this Dock WD15 support iPad Pro 2020/21?
If Yes, does the dock need to be connected to power source? the wattage output is fine with iPad?

I've heard there are different levels of implementing all the different features of USB-C. One of those optional features was displaying on the USB-C. Having been founded at Google it makes sense that the chromebook would support it. I wonder if we could identify some quality that we could filter out the dumb type C ports.

Maybe just add a USB to HDMI adabter onto the dock? Kinda lame to have to do it that way, but for surfing and productivity it's should do the trick

did you try to update "ASMedia USB3.0 eXtensible Host Controller " in device manager read that is an issue for this dock

I have used an older dell dock with older usb on a cube i6 and it worked fine, very strange! I did have to install the dell software from the website first though.

4:40 - there is no driver for this dock? I think that the display out is handle by dock graphic card, not just stream video through usb-c :P

Does anyone know if you can use standard 5V usb adapter and a usb type-c cable to charge this tablet? I understand even if it works i will be slow since the original charger charges at 12v/2.5a. But it will be so convenient to share the power adapter with cell phones.
