If it's extra cold, instead of wearing a big jacket try layering up with an unbuttoned flannel, unzipped gray hoodie, and a light jacket over top. The layers add depth and variety, the gray hood accentuates the jacket, and if you're a graphic tee kind of guy you can show that off too.

The varsity jacket is to sophomoric for an adult male. I’d prefer to go with a pilot or bomber jacket. It lends itself to a sophisticated look. The other tends to give the impression that your still wanting to relive those high school or college glory days.
