I too was from indiana when I enlisted in the marine corps only I served from the 70s into the 80s.

In my first unit in the Army. We had to sign a form saying we would not to extreme sports or anything to hurt ourselves. Saw 3 guys in one summer loose rank and get kicked out for injuries.
