I used to be very possessive of my books and had a similar notion to yours where some day, in the future, I'll be able to showcase every book I ever owned/read on my infinite dream bookshelves. Problem was that I lived in a different city from my parents. My mum would frequently ask me if she could donate the books from my childhood bedroom to which I would always (naturally) refuse. She would repeatedly ask me to at least go through my books and take the ones I wanted but I kept putting it off. Then one year, a good eight years or since I had lived in my parents' house, she arrived at my flat carting three boxes full of all my books. My room, which was already overflowing with books, suddenly felt like it was suffocating under all these books. And yes, I did enjoy going through them and musing "oh look, this was from my suchandsuch phase" and "this was from that other phase" but ultimately, I just couldn't keep them all (well, I could... It just didn't make sense to)
