On Wednesday night, Arsenal's Champions League hopes were ended in Munich, in their first quarter-final at that level in 14 years.

Mikel Arteta was left lost for words in how to console his side, but they still remain in the Premier League title race.

So how can the Spaniard ensure the Gunners' season doesn't peter out? How ruthless can they be in this summer's transfer window - or should Arteta be able to get more from the squad already at his disposal?

Ayo Akinwolere is joined by The Athletic's David Ornstein and Art de Roche to discuss and analyse how different Arsenal could look the other side of the summer transfer window.

People are mad. Arteta as a rookie coach, first management job, has been phenomenal! He’s challenging some of the world’s best managers with a fairly thin squad. Wake up everyone! Arsenal have an amazing manager.

The fans really need to maintain calm, even if they don’t sign anyone over the summer, the squad are going to be able to develop & improve throughout the whole 24-25 season. By promoting academy players and allowing those in the squad already to play more minutes, the summer of 2025-26 where the major signings are going to need to be made, in order to win the league & UCL. Next season is going to similar to this year but with more emphasis on Arteta’s ability to innovate & coach. Alonso is proving that he is capable of the main serial winner 🏆

Arsenal need to remember the grass isn’t always greener. As a Utd fan I’d take Arteta in a heartbeat🤣

Technically, Arsenal is ahead of schedule regarding the process. Just looking at the squad upgrading takes time. Arsenal is not Chelsea. We're not signing 7 or 8 players in one window. ❤😂

2-3 players is optimal as in players designed to improve the squad and add options to playing style. For me Fabio Vieira is on the chopping block along with quite a few fringe players.

Arsenal are looking for a world-class first XI and a top quality bench. Part of this strategy is upgrading our youth ranks at all levels.

Obviously this all takes time and resources but Arsenal have made it clear by supporting Arteta that they are happy with the process. ❤😂

Imagine 2 Odergaards on the pitch. Odegaard, Luiz from Villa and Dec Rice in Midfield. That's an Arsenal that will terrify any team.

Arsenal mainly need a top striker who will convert chances and not hesitate in the box. Arsenal spend alot of time playing touches in and around the opposition box with no end product. Big concern.

Ornstein is definitely a Pro Arteta! Good for balance tho but the pressure is on

I'm sorry but he's within two points of the FFP cheats City who have an elite manager and an insanely expensive squad. How is it even a discussion whether or not he's doing a good job? He's doing an absolutely amazing job. Football fans are unbearable.

Arteta has revitalised Arsenal in every way, much to his credit. That being said, he has no clue how to manage in game, how to use subs effectively. Another massive problem is how he drives his players into the ground every year as he has no clue how to build a squad and utilise that squad.

Arsenal won the same number of cup as ETH, but you dont see any criticism on his lost yesterday. wonder why?

Arsenal needs to world class forward players, one striker and one to take some load off Odegaard. And absolutely need to sell Nelson, Jesus, nketiah and esr

Arsenal needs a prolific 9 . Who can score goals. Because Arsenal wingers are not clinical finishers. Jesus is like firminho not good in finishing. But unlike Arsenal Liverpool had salah and sane who is very clinical. So Arsenal needs a big strong centre forward who scores 25 goals a season so that when the wingers are misfiring he will somehow find a way to put the ball back in the net..

I see many teams looking for selling players...but, who'll buy them? The Saudi's blow probably vanished

The bigger question: How ruthless were Arsenal's exits from the title race these last two seasons? Can they ever bounce back after two magnificent bottlejobs in a row?

Ruthless? Lol. All theyl do is get rid of winners and strong personalities like Ozil and Auba and replace them with yes man with no spine.

Spend lots of money to get another season without a trophy. How long before they look at the man child in the dugout ?.
