I always believed that Isaac was not a child when Abraham took him up the mountain to be sacrificed, but he was around 30 years old, in which case he would have been considered truly old enough to carry the load of wood as in to 'bare his own cross'. And he was at an age where he could have refused to be tied up as the sacrifice but instead he obeyed his father's will, trusting in his father's decision and word...that God would provide a lamb.
