You're right but I have been using the same chrome non impacted rated sockets for over 10 years for work 5 days a week. Never had any problems, maybe I'm just lucky. I am buying some impact sockets soon though

The only thing that you missed really with the impact tools and this is mainly 3/4”, 1” and 1-1/2” drive is there’s a hole through the anvil that matches the holes in the socket and instead of a spring loaded pin retainer there’s an actual wooden or steel pin that goes in there holding the socket on and there’s an o-ring that goes around the socket to keep the pin in place. There’s a few other retainers like snap-ons that is a rubber titty deal that I mainly use.
Also chrome sockets on impact tools will break more in the cold/winter versus the heat/summer. That was found out the hard way

Very informative and a great video you put together, but I have to say I have been using chrome sockets on impacts practically my whole life, and it’s funny because I have buddies that come over and cringe when I do it lol

At my age now I don't have enough strength to fight with tough nuts and bolt by hand so I use impact for just about everything and most my sockets are impact sockets. I still keep a set of thin wall chrome spark plug socket for those spark plugs that sit in deep channels and turn them by hand.

Very good, but there are Chrome Vanadium Impact Sockets too. These are black anodised and mine are manufactured by US Pro #1397 (formerly Bergen)
I.E. the material contains chrome and vanadium and is heat treated to suit impact work, but not plated with shiny chrome.
Yes, for the price of a set of sockets I wouldn't risk my life and these Bergens have relatively thin wall with only the 18 and 19 being the same casing in a 13-32mm 13pc set.
I don't know how long they'll last but they seem to be well made with both laser etching and deep stamping - suggesting they were designed for a lot of use.

I once had a car with severly overtightened lugnuts
broke 2 standard sockets while standing on the cheater bar
the next day I had a go at it with my DeWalt DCF899 and proper impact sockets and spun it off in the blink of an eye

Very important piece of information I believe you missed if you use Chrome sockets on your Impact Tool it will wear out the Anvil on your impact tool that is probably the biggest reason not to use impact sockets on your nice Milwaukee impact

There are Impact grade Chrome sockets on the market. The manufacturers basically condition the Chrome for Impact applications.

So, an impact socket should be used on both impact drivers and impact wrenches? I can't use the basic chrome sockets on just my regular 1/4" impact driver? I don't own an impact wrench driver.

I'm a bit slow so I'm still learning my tools, this cleared up so much. Today i found out my dad left a chrome socket on our impact and that thing was a bitch and a half to take off LOL
