As a Brazilian who has been buying digital games because the physical games are too expansive hearing that now the price might not be as expensive makes me feel and unimaginable amount of happiness.

I'm from Brazil and it's kinda crazy, they added a website only eshop last year, that helped a bit, so u would pay the game in the local coin (R$) and receive a code to redeem. Switch systems can be found for about 400-500 USD and games pricing changes a lot, but most ones with the 60 USD retail are about +50% price, soo, around 80-90 USD when u can find it, cheaper ones are about the same % diff, but it varies a bit more depending on demand. Well, I hope it gets a lot better soon.

11:40 thanks for the mention my friend! The event was a success in catching Nintendo’s attention in Brazil, and SO MANY fans 🇧🇷 showed support on social media, which brought a lot of good things. Nintendo Fans in Brazil are amazing!!

I am so happy Nintendo decided to bet on our market again!!! 🎉🎉🥳🥳

Hey there Spawn! Brazilian here, big fan of you since you were at 20k subs and big Nintendo fan since the SNES days. Very excited to hear the Nintendo news!

It's no secret that gaming in Brazil relied on smuggled consoles and pirated games up to late 2000s, being a poor country with high import taxes. Things changed a bit by the time the PS3 came out when the companies started producing consoles here, having deals with brazilian companies for distribution and the overall economy got better. But taxes were still high, hence the infamous PS4 costing the equivalent of $1000 (because it was imported at the time) at launch here when the average brazilian salary was the equivalent of $500/mo (min. wage around $200/mo). Since Nintendo never produced its consoles here they were always more expensive than the others, despite being cheaper everywhere else.

Like you said, in the WiiU era Nintendo pulled out of the country completely, making direct importation the only way to get a Nintendo consoles and games. Doing that legally made the console cost at least twice as much as much as it costs in the US, so smuggling became rampant again and if you didn't have the opportunity to travel abroad and bring one back in your luggage, you'd be paying 50-100% more than you'd pay for a PS4, for example. Physical games also have a similar price increase, unless you buy digital which has similar prices to the US. The eshop also works in a funny way here, you go to Nintendo's brazilian website and buy there, they send you a code to your e-mail and you put that code in our eshop, which is just a box to enter codes. Because of the price difference many people are buying Nintendo games digitally.

Anyway, I'm really excited to see Nintendo coming back here! Hopefully they make the market of their games go back to something more reasonable. Things were bananas with that pandemic and the fact that our currency lost a lot of value recently, going from like R$3.80/$1 to R$5.50/$1.

Thanks man,

Im just one brazilian youtuber focused on Nintendo and it's great to see everything that is happining right now!
It means a lot to us "nintendistas" in Brazil.
And it means a lot also, an important channel like yours talking about it!

This brazilian indie direct showcase that our community created was Epic. Coelho no Japão was the channel that was like a leader in this massive wave!
Sure it helped.

As I use to say here: "Que dia pra ser nintendista!"

I'm Brazilian and every time I want to buy something from Nintendo it costs me a lot of money (like 30-40% from my salary per game). In general, I have to buy used games for a better price (about 50% discount), but still costs the same as full price games from other platforms here.
I can't blame Nintendo for leaving our country. At the time, the Wii U was a big fail, our taxes are kinda abusive. So, with low gain and high costs, I believe that was better for the company at the time.
I hope it will be a better time for us Nintendistas Brasileiros.

You love to see those Brasil news! As a gamer living in Costa Rica, I know the struggle. The Switch is sold at $450-$500 here and physical games are sold at $90. We don’t even have an e-shop, so we need to use the USA’s.

Really happy for my Brazilian brothers!

Hey, Brazilian here. It’s really hard to get a switch right now, they cost about 500 dollars (if not more) but now that Nintendo is coming back, I hope the price goes down. I’m happy they finally listened, and I can’t wait to see more people enjoy Nintendo!

I live in Brazil, and when I saw this news yesterday I almost cried with joy (seriously, no joke), Brazilian Nintendo fans struggled a lot for this to happen since 2015 when Nintendo left here, we did everything, buying games on Brazilian eshop (which has few games compared to eshop usa), creating campaigns on social networks and even making our own direct (as you said in the video) everything to get Nintendo's attention, watching this happen was insane !!!

and one thing that was really cool was to see Doug Bowser himself publish this news on his twitter using a term that we Brazilians use to say that someone is a fan of nintendo ("Nintendista")

Sorry, my english is rusty

and if you are Brazilian you are reading this: VOU CAPOTAR O CORSA HJ!!!! TO FELIZÃO!! CONSEGUIMOS

This Metroid situation reminds me of Breath of the Wild. I know people that bought a Wii U just for Zelda, and it ended up being one of the last games released for the console, while the better version ended up being the star launch title for their next-gen system.
Something tells me we'll be seeing Metroid at the verrrry end of the Switch's life.

The Switch coming to Brazil is going to be really good, but it's going to be even better for Venezuela, because importing from Brazil is going to be cheaper than from the US.

As a Brazilian who's been living in Canada for the last 5 years, the switch and its games are still going to be massively overpriced there.
I've been seriously considering visiting my family while carrying a few switch lites since they go for literally double the NA price. It's a sad reality there honestly.

Ubisoft would need to do more than merely remaster those Prince of Persia games to bring them up to modern standards.

I just saw a Nintendo Direct from 2012 in my recommended. That has to mean something, right?

Right?!

If I remember correctly, last year Brazil’s government changed the way gaming cartridges and systems capable of reading that media were categorized inside the tax system. That was what Nintendo needed I guess to return.

I don’t think Microsoft is ever going to get the “perfect window” that their looking for on when to reveal this. Sony knows that this system will undercut their disc-less system and they will happily stall out revealing their price to make the Series S more as a side thing for consumers as Microsoft won’t have a ton of time to market this thing and build hype. Funny, it’s the Cold War of pricing.

Here in Brazil we depend on the Grey Market to buy localy. In reliable stores the Switch cost around $500 - $550 and a $60 game ussualy cost $90. In more untrusted stores it is possible to find the console for around $400 and games for around $70, but with limited guarantee. To export we need to pay a fee of 60% of the excess amount of $50. Also the only authorized suport assistence (which always charge for any type of repair even if it is clearly a manufacted problem) is in São Paulo. That leaves 5570 cities without local official suport. I think now it's clear why the brazilians are so happy about Nintendo coming to Brazil. But hey, maybe now I can buy the Ring Fit Adventure for a price lower than $200!
