The Top 20 Furry Names (according to Furtrack)

After a conversation about the prevalence of certain names in the Furry community, I decided to go on a little adventure to find what the most popular names are. I'll talk about the top 20 most popular furry names, and the top 100 are shared in the credits at the end. Also I might actually learn something about myself.

Just kidding, I learned nothing about myself. Why self-reflect when you can make more videos instead?

So i see why its so popular despite any specific cultural weight

- Somehow captures the protogen energy so extremely well
- What is a fursona but an echo of your true self?

It’s probably completely unrelated, but Kai and Jay are characters in LEGO Ninjago, which is where I mostly associate those names with. It has been going since 2011, so it’s not inconceivable that _someone_ might’ve used that as their namesake…

Mate, holy shit, that last one actually got me.

When I first joined this fandom, it got me out of a really damn dark place in my life that I had been stuck in for probably half a decade. I made my first character and named her Nova. I just thought it sounded pretty and cool. But now, knowing what it actually means, it actually makes my heart flutter a bit, because maybe it wasn't just a coincidence that I chose that name.

I don't think a lot of these were based on furry awakenings, they're almost all common pet names from the 80s-early 2000s. But this was a fun video. But yeah I literally had a pet named max, blue, silver, ace, etc. Or if I didn't a close friend of mine did.

I was never aware of how common a furry name Nova was i literally made my fursona before i was even a furry (don't ask) and I STILL ended up naming her nova for some divine reason lol

Kai and Sky/Skye were kind of default names back in '90s/'00s media for characters whom the writers wanted to fulfill at least one of two purposes:
-be the cool kid in the group
-be the token ambiguously ethnic kid in the group

Fursonas named that are almost definitely '90s kids.

And from 1988 to 2011, its safe to say there wasn't a furry who didn't know him.

Gen Z awakening would be Max from Sam and Max, a series of video games and comic books. He's an anthro rabbit (officially "hyperkinteic rabbity-thing") and ironically, Max has Pepper energy. If you want context, there are plenty of clip compilations on Youtube showcasing Max's behaviour and dialogue (and I watch at least one every week😅)
