Protests Erupt in Greece Following Migrant Shipwreck

Protests have erupted across Greece following the shipwreck carrying as many as 750 passengers, leaving dozens dead and hundreds still missing. The gravity of the situation drew intense criticism over the European Union’s failure to establish a comprehensive migration and asylum policy. Greece’s coast guard defended its response to the shipwreck off the country’s south coast. The incident involved a fishing vessel carrying hundreds of migrants, which capsized and sank in the Mediterranean Sea while en route from Libya to Italy.

The search and rescue operation, now extended beyond the standard 72 hours, has so far resulted in the recovery of 78 bodies and the rescue of 104 survivors. The tragic event has intensified pressure on both the Greek government and the European Union to address the ongoing challenges associated with migration. Various international entities, including the United Nations, have called on both the Greek government and the European Union to address the issue.

A judicial investigation is underway to determine the causes of the sinking. Meanwhile, survivors are being relocated to migrant shelters, and suspects involved in people smuggling have been arrested and charged. The process of identifying the victims has begun through DNA sampling at a state-run morgue.

Hopefully they don't blame Greece for their illegal crossing and deaths.

Why are they protesting in Greece?

Seems like protest should happen in the countries the people are coming from.

Poland is right that it is necessary to help poor countries by sending them medicine or school materials.
But not to invite Islam to Europe.

Stop sailing to countries that you have no business going to, especially when doing so illegally. The Greeks don't owe these people anything. Everyone on that ship knew what they were doing was wrong and suffered the consequences of their decision.

Where did they come from? Why is Greece being blamed? Why were so many people on this boat ? This is a sad occurrence over and over . These people have mobile phones and are chatting to relatives in Europe, so it's not that they are unaware of the dangers . Stop coming over, and relatives stop telling them, too.

Why European countries, why not oil rich middle eastern countries which shares same values, religion and whatever.

Countries cannot keep taking illegals into their country i live in America and its insane just this year its nearly 2mil have entered our country and thousands die trying to get here from Mexico/South America. Its so sad but it doesn't seem it will end any time soon here or anywhere in world. This is not Greece's fault but those trying to gain entry.

They took an illegal risk and it was unfortunate I think most countries are fed up with this illegal migration.

Sorry about the loss of life How on earth can you get 750 on a boat that size It’s not as if they were issued with boarding passes or showed their passports etc to prove the numbers
Let’s wait on the facts to come out before we jump to conclusions

Well at least one good thing is that they won't be coming over here

You know, i feel VERY sorry for them and their families for their losses, BUT...what do you expect when 750 get on a boat that looked like it was designed for MAYBE 150, and set out on the ocean, a very dangerous place. Its not like the rest of the world should be heald accountable for their lack of respect for the sea. Maybe educating people about the DANGERS of getting on boats FILLED to ober its recomended capacity, that would be the most anyone could do...in the end, its going to be left up to the people themselves, to JUST NOT RISK IT.
I would be very VERY curious to know, exactly what these people are being TOLD to cause themto risk their lives to make these voyages across the sea. If they are sane and reasonably smart humans, but ARE STILL CHOOSING to get on a small boat FILLEDwith far FAR MORE people than itshould be able to carry, even on calm seas...then SOMEONE is filling their heads with promises of something that they are willing to risk dieing for...THAT, is the question that we should ALL be asking.

This story will blow over in three weeks. Then no one will care until it happens again. Where's the outrage?

Such a cruel world is it 70+ have died in the ship and people are blaming them for coming to their country(i know that what they did was wrong but some people were desperate and helpless)
But 5 people died in the submarine to see the titanic and people are giving sympathy to them and cursing those migrants who were desperate
Such a cruel world it is
