A biscuit — a cookie.
A trainer — sneakers. Shoes you train in.
Punting — boating. I believe this was when Fred and George spawned a lake in one of the classroom hallways.

I love how all of us American readers just accepted that filch was drop kicking students 😭😭

I was an adult when I learned that punting had a different meaning in the UK, I spent my childhood imagining Filch dropkicking students across the puddle thing.

Bro Filch seems like the kind of guy who would punt students to class. Maybe down the moving staircases if he was mad enough.

Most of the little things I was able to figure out, but until recently I did not know that "punting" meant boating, so for the longest time I thought he would drop-kick the students. Seriously.

For years I thought treacle tart was a magical wizarding food until I watched Bake Off and realized it was just molasses pie. 😂🤣

Glad to see I am not the only one who practically destroyed their paperback copies reading them so much.

We all know Filch would do it though. I can’t think of any grown man more ready to drop kick small children around a castle

When I first read Chamber of Secrets (this was 2000 and I was 10), I thought “slug” was a British term for “vomit” when Ron started throwing up slugs. I was quite disgusted and shocked when I saw the movie in 2002 and realized he was throwing up actual slugs.

I would love to say that the best thing about being Indian is that:
There's a whole lot of us who watch American movies and often pick up the accent, slang, etc.
On the other hand, we follow British style for spelling practices and inevitably grasp a lot of British words.
So while speaking, we end up mixing the two into what is called Indian English. Thus, we don't find it as difficult to understand both while reading American or British texts.

I like imagining the “American version” of punting 💀 it just seems funnier

My parents didn’t know that snogging was just intense kissing, and I wasn’t allowed to read the rest of the books because it was “inappropriate for children”

To be fair, Filch probably would dropkick a student if he felt he could get away with it.

THE PUNTING LINE 😂😂😂 I swear that’s what I imagined for ten years before learning it was like a small boat.

Wait, Filch ISN’T drop kicking the kids into their classrooms?!? I didn’t think anything of it because it absolutely sounds like something he would do 😂
