"If someone asks if you're a god you say yes."

This makes me wanna play a Kuo-Toa Cleric even more. I had an idea for one that worships a gemstone that talks to him, unknown to him and everyone that it’s actually a Lich’s Phylactery and the Lich is using him to become a god.

Ah yes. Kuo Toa, the God makers. Saw the thumbnail and instantly knew who those little guys were.

I am so happy after a year plus of searching I finally found a dnd group

Shit, if my players were able to pull this off, I’d let future players worship the new god as their patron

Alright just make sure as a god you don’t get yourself eaten! *it happens more often then you’d think* YIRBEL LIVES!

Personally? I'd allow a player character to become a god if given the opportunity. They managed to do it so they earned it. That being said it would count as the end of their character on their adventure for obvious reasons as godly duties are called for

Kuo toa before runesmith: "whats that?"
Kuo toa after runesmith: "I've known them since forever!"

I totally would've allowed it. DnD is supposed to do one thing: bringing joy to your players. Allow them to have such an awesome moment, and either bring their power down afterwards or let them leave the party and make a new character. But don't take their moment to shine away from them.

I feel like that could have been an awesome start to a "Part 2" of the story where they now have to stop their Mad God former party member.

Or, alternatively, being unable to fully handle the vast power yet it becomes more of a convenient plot device to get the party into and out of other plots.

It is the same thing as death: prepare next char sheet. Also: you need a "sendoff"

I must've rolled snake-eyes on Wisdom, because the dragon would've convinced me to work for him.

As for why Clerics are a Wisdom class but religeon is an Intelligence roll, knowing about a religeon is different than knowing how best to convert an unbeleiver..

If i was the dm, this player would notice the blades of Chaos flames getting closer....

I think that after the character became a god, the dm would take the character away, just like if the character had died. The player would have to roll a new character. It’s too powerful to just play a god.

In a more chaotic setting for sure I'd allow it, so long as there was a full understanding that this would also 'retire' the character.

Would I allow it? Yeah, but becoming a god is epilogue material... "congratulations, [character] is a god now... and I'm calling the session there. We'll use what time we have left of tonight to discuss how the characters feel about it, and what they plan to do next, then [new God's player] and I will arrange a planning session together to build the mechanical aspects of the new god and sketch out the religion... and decide what [player's] new character will be... nicely done guys, you've permanently changed the setting, this new god will be part of my world building from here on."

If the DM says my character can become a god, then heck yeah!

Just so long as the other PCs can achieve apotheosis too.

Id absolutely allow that. That's literally the type of stuff that legend in dnd are made of. I wouldn't allow them to play said character anymore. But def allow it for cool factor and it builds on the lore of your world
