I was a young boy and staying at Lanet Barracks, Nakuru. My father was a non commissioned army officer, but stationed at DOD, Hurlingham. We woke up in the morning and all of a sudden there were sirens calling soldiers to assemble. We always used to see these preparations but this was different. Within a short time the soldiers went to the armory and trucks came to take soldiers to Nairobi for the counter attack. I was then 11 years old and I told my mum war had broken out. Guys, when war breaks out, the psychology and emotions of soldiers changes. Many of the soldiers were our friends who died and others got maimed. What's unfortunate is that I met some of them after they had retired and they were so disheartened for not being taken care of adequately of their injuries . I was at Moi Forces Academy, Eastleigh and all these stories were narrated by age mates we went to school with because the majority of the students' parents were soldiers. After that the army and airforce was to be filled with Kalenjins. They'd rise so phenomenally to protect Moi. May God help this country to have fairness to all. I'm 55 years old and wish the best for future generations of Kenya. One last note, Kenyans of non Somali origin should know that Somalis of Kenya are a very, very patriotic people and are different from Somalis from Mogadishu area. They're not deeply clannish like Somalis from Mogadishu. They want a fair Kenya. If you meet a Somali of Kenya anywhere in the world he feels very Kenyan. Even when a Kenyan Somali goes to Somalia he is still attached to Kenya. I've experienced it. Somalis from Somaliland, the Ishaq too are very good people and know how to live with other people.

What a master piece story. I was somewhere in rural Kenya as a class 7 pupil. All I can remember seeing were low flying jets emerging from the hills of Tinderet and cruising towards Kisumu. Long live Kenya

Captain wachira and captain Unshur should have been duly awarded and promoted to become the Decorated generals as they were real heroes who rescued the nation from military rule .Its a pity that they stayed at the same (captain) ranks for 6 years and resigned due to no recognition in the force

I still remember the event as if it was yesterday. My family had just been transferred to work at Citibank Nairobi, from Abidjan Ivory Coast and I was starting my high school in Parklands Arya Girls. On a Sunday morning we kept hearing this one song of Jimmy Cliff “house of exile” over and over again on VOK. We were like ..what’s going on! Then finally came 1st announcement of a coup and then few hours later another announcement of a failed coup. There was curfew for a few weeks. Bogi Benda cartoon rebranded during the event and gave people a good laugh. I love and miss Kenya. The good old memories of the 80s when matatus fares were shillingi moja: Tigoni na Wangige, Kingeero, Lower Kabete, K.I.A Westlands …. ❤️❤️❤️

Very well-done documentary, we need more of such as a country, to learn and appreciate where we are. If you listen to the reasons Ochuka gave for the mutiny, they are the same reason we have GenZ demos today.

"This account provides more insights than previous reports. It felt like a scene from a movie! I vividly recall the helicopters flying from Embakasi and attacking the air base. In fact, they flew over our house in Eastlands, and the buffalo aircraft flew low over our neighborhood too! What a remarkable time!"
