Historical Context for American LIterature

We are all products of our culture. Writers of the past lived in a society that had different ideas about nature and civilization, labor and leisure, individual freedom and group identity, race, gender, class, and literacy. Sometimes these writers challenged the values they grew up with, and sometimes they accepted them without question. The same can be said of each of us.

I have to say how highly I admire your delivery of this information, Mr. Jerz! I have my final A-Level exam on American Literature next week, and the intelligence in this contextual presentation of yours, has saved me regarding the 'historical context' element of the course! Thank you very much for this, and warm wishes from the UK.
