How I Would Find My First SWE Job

Finding my first software engineering job in 2020 was relatively easy, but I don't think I would have had much success if I did the same things now as I did back then. In this video I go over exactly would I would do now if I had to do it all over again!

very informative vid. I just finished my process and finally landed a full time SWE opportunity after 700+ application. If I could go back I would definitely optimize how I searched for a full time dev role.

BRO something that is crazy is the video you used as an example for the algorithm was in my recommended earlier and I added it to my "coding" playlist to watch it later LMAOOOO... btw, love the videos man, keep up the good work!

I was surprised to hear that you were pursing a physics degree. I hold one myself, and even got accepted into graduate school and spent 2 years pursuing a masters and a phd. People say a physics degree is hard, yeah they're not lying. Anything beyond that is mind numbing. Pair that with a teaching assistant job that pays like crap just so I can get free grad tuition, I eventually went insane with burnout and imposter syndrome and failed a class and there then got suspended.

Luckily, I did a whole bunch of side projects and 4 *simultaneous* part-time coding jobs in undergrad, and a whole two years of pretty advanced computational physics, coding in C++ and sometimes FORTRAN. I left grad school 9 months ago, but I have yet to get called for 1 interview. So yeah, I'm feeling very down right now. But glad to see you're doing well for yourself mate.

Simililar story. TLDR: Took a computer science class my senior year of HS. So in college I decided to also major in CS, but the first semester was just math and b.s classes.. in my mind I thought I would be coding. Got fed up and switched to and graduated with a bio degree. Covid happened during my internship and told me to sit tf down .. joined a coding bootcamp and here I am..
hungry and ready for my first role.

Why does your resume show the bachelor of science took 4 years?

Is web development and HTML/CSS much different from being a software engineer? And what are the differences, I'm very new to coding and just started with python so I would love to know which "path" to take.

Are Software Dev roles a typical 9-5 or do the schedules vary?
