Mary Quant, Kings Road and the Rolling Stones Chelsea Drugstore - Episode 16

Swinging London caught fire in the 1960's with the arrival of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, the Kinks and a score of other rock bands.

The British fashion revolution was ushered in as early as 1955 when Mary Quant opened her first store "Bazaar" on the Kings Road. (138a to be precise.) It is an embarrassment that there is not a plaque to commemorate the famous location which launched the modern British fashion industry.

In the late 70's I would travel down to London once a month just to walk down the Kings Road to visit BOY and Seditionaries, great memories

It's a 'Joe the Juice' now & there's a plaque on the outside wall commemorating Mary Quant's 'Bazaar'.
The railings to the side are still there! Small mercies.
