I've debated until I was blue in the face that grading companies are not the be all end all in deciding what is & isn't the case in numismatics. If they won't/cant acknowledge or document ANY errors or varieties that don't already exist in their little books- than why do we give them so much credit? And $ to half grade. They're not doing their jobs, not completely at least if it's to identify coins for what they are.
If a major grader needs someone or thing else to confirm something for them, then what's the point in spending $ with them? We now have an entire world to sell raw coins to at our fingertips, & people are buying. Seems like professionals of other kinds are the true deciders. If companies created to grade can't tell a newly found error from a machine mistake, what else do they miss that could be adding to value & knowledge of coinage
