Great new tips for me. It is common practice, though, to tease out the side & bottom roots after pulling from the pot to encourage their search for new water and nutrients.

I’m a dahlia newbie and living in S Florida. I’m glad I found your video, since others show just pinching the top leaves and not cutting them at the bottom. I’m definitely going to use your technique. An expat in Ft Lauderdale.

A little late in watching your videos, I am catching up though. I was really interested to see that you pinch out the tips of your dahlias. I didn't know about this, Katrina, so thank you for teaching me something new today My favourite dahlias are the singles and particularly the Honka variety. I love the star-like flowers and so do the bees. The dark one "Verrone's Obsidian" is my absolute favourite. Love your videos!

Thanks for the great video! I bought a pot from the store that has lots of blooms. When should I re pot it into a larger pot? After the first round of blooms, should I pinch them too as you did in this video?

Thanks so much for the information. I've been learning different ways to care for dahlias. I've been confused on how deep to plant dahlias. When you plant them in the pots, and plan to transplant them in the garden, how far down do you set the tuber in the pot initially.

Bishop of Canterbury Dahlia. Love your Dahlias. A very professional video. Great time to publish straight after gardeners' world. Could you do a video on growing your squash just like the Dahlias?

We planted just one city light lavender pink dahlia from a nursery pot in early April in North Carolina. After the 4 blooms died off, the plant grew wider and wider with no new blooms but lots of green leaves. Filling up the spaces in our butterfly garden. Don't know if we should trim back some of the green leaves or wait and see what happens. It is now early summer and temperatures have reached 85-90 degrees on some days. What do you think we should do? We are fearful it might take up too much space. Thanks
