We sent our East Asia correspondent Elliot to the prestigious Chengdu Motor Show to report back on the 'cheap, cool & crazy electric cars' at the event. Highlights from the show - the largest and most influential exhibition of its kind in West China - include the Baojun e300p, the BYD Han, the Chery Arrizo Star and the Toyota Izoa. While the traditional automotive industry might feel like it's slowed down, exhibitions like this hint at an exciting future EVs.

Amazing choice of EVs, and mostly good looking too without copying Western designs. Chinese designers are now confident in their own design ideas. Thankyou for the technical details too.

I love listening to this guy. He's so the antithesis of Top Gear, with the emphasis on useable practical cars for the coming years. Excellent.

Some of these cars are cheaper than E-bikes in canada. Great show.

Marvelous! Huge thanks to Elliott and Fully Charged for this incredible episode. I hope that the Chinese EVs are very soon shipped around the world, including to Australia. Great lessons for legacy car-makers.

Amazing coverage of some amazing vehicles I for one and very grateful to FC fpr putting forth the amazing effort to cover this, the fact is if we want to know what is coming in the world of EVs (and we do) then providing this coverage is INVALUABLE!! Thanks to everyone for putting forth this amazing effort.

It's hard not to feel short changed by the legacy manufacturers when you watch this.

Seeing this stuff makes me realise how much the legacy brands have dropped the ball on EV's, the new companies are going to totally dominate the roads in a decade or so if the old guard don't up their game significantly. I'd love to see a combination of new tecnology with the design flare of the European manufacturers, so far there's only a hint of this with Polestar but we need much much more of it.

Anyone remembering the 1970's when the Japanese came in and took the car market by storm will watch this and see what's coming in the 2020's 👀

This is amazing! It feels like Chinese EV makers produce as twice as much the rest of the world carmakers do! The key is all EV dedicated brands!

Fascinating selection of incredibly inexpensive EVs for mass-market consumers - brilliant.
And great to see so many are (understandably for China) SMALL vehicles rather than the West's seeming obsession with huge SUVs...!
Let's just hope we can buy them in the UK at some point and really get the EV revolution going...

A really good video, thanks for putting in the leg work to create it! China is clearly embracing EV's and it's clear the focus is on producing low cost cars that are equipped well enough to be within reach of at least a fair proportion of the population.

Good job Elliot! Great video! Amazing how many EV's China has designed and built to date. Legacy manufacturers better get their act together or they will be history. The writing is on the wall. Cheers from Canada.

You had me at the 1st minute with the introduction, bold and polite. I'm gonna watch the cars now, I'm probably gonna love it all.

I like how Elliot criticises dashboard screens not because they exist, but because they’re too basic :) Reviewer for the century we’re in.

And I agree about the small cars. I love the unique designs and focus on affordability. Cars like the BaoJun would be ideal for a sharing scheme.

Thank you for a most informative presentation. What comes powerfully to the front are the affordable prices. With such prices and the low running costs, these EVs should drive comfortably into the future.
