'I'll sing, but don't record me!' (former Voice of Ireland Contestant)

On Halloween 2021, I went to Union Square (New York City) and asked random people to sing with me. That's when I met Nollaig O'connor! Though Nollaig loves to sing, she has been held back my shyness. That didn't stop her from being a contestant on "The Voice of Ireland" (a singing competition TV show in) in 2011. That also didn't stop her from singing with me on this day. In this video, play a song we both love, "Zombie" by the Cranberries. It clearly makes her happier, to have this random chance to sing one of her favorite songs in public. It did the same for me!

As a musician, I'm all about creating musical experiences that have people feeling happy and free, and that's why the "Sing With Me" series exists. Since 2018, I have asked thousands of random people to sing with me on camera. A lot of people have said no, some have said no initially but changed their minds to yes, and some have said yes right away. I ask these people to sing with one purpose: to create a way for them to experience a sense of happiness and freedom they did not feel before. And much of the time, this actually works (and that makes ME happy).

Lyrics:
Another head hangs lowly
Child is slowly taken
And the violence, caused such silence
Who are we mistaken?
But you see, it's not me
It's not my family
In your head, in your head, they are fighting
With their tanks, and their bombs
And their bombs, and their guns
In your head, in your head they are crying
In your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What's in your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie, oh
Do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do
Another mother's breaking
Heart is taking over
When the violence causes silence
We must be mistaken
It's the same old theme
Since nineteen-sixteen
In your head, in your head, they're still fighting
With their tanks, and their bombs
And their bombs, and their guns
In your head, in your head, they are dying
In your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What's in your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh, ay, oh, ya ya

“Don’t send it to me, it’s good to know that it happened” she’s literally living in the moment, pure soul ❤️

Dude is so chill and professional. If he wasn’t so approachable and friendly and genuine these connections couldn’t happen. Good humans attract good humans. And omg Nollaig. I’m a writer, journalism is awesome, but she needs to sing.

This girl has a great voice. This is not an easy song to sing & she handled it.

I hate so much that anxiety is such a powerful thing. She has such an incredible voice and is clearly passionate about singing but cannot perform because she's too shy. I understand that feeling way too well, and it's truly awful how it can hold people back.

Can we acknowledge the fact the guitarist can play and sing almost every song?

Nollaig O'Connor is so amazingly good. How can she not be making a living singing?! She's soulful, technically skillful, and loaded with godgiven talent. Share your gift with the world, Nollaig!

She sounded great. Sad to think she has tons of talent but feels the weight of anxiety and shyness and doesn’t let the world hear her talent. I’d love to hear more!

She sang because it felt good, it made her happy, she connected with the light in herself. Not because she wanted attention. That’s the beauty of creative expression.

The guy with the guitar is a walking definition of the word "altruism". I love the way he infuses confidence into the people he convinces to sing along with him. so cool ;)

The first "And their bombs, and their guns" made me tear up. This hits different when an Irish person covers this legendary song.

Only a truly Irish person could give this song the soulful wings she gives it. Bravo!

This brought a tear to my eye. Everyone who is a fan of Dolores O'Riordan misses her voice and spirit and mourns her. Grateful to have heard Nollaig O'Connor sing this. <3

It's amazing how the “feedback” we receive from others can destroy our belief in ourselves. She is so talented but the painful feedback is still hurting her. Been there. I hope she changes her mind and share her exceptional talent with the world again.

I am just blown away at the talent of random people. Street corners, Airports, Malls...there are so many talented people willing to make other people happy even if for just a moment. Thanks Reggie. Keep up the good work!

Nollaig, you arent alone. Tons of us are shy, and watching you do this inspired us.
Thank you for the bravery.

It is sad that this lady is so shy, she has an incredible voice, charm and shyness. I miss Dolores signing and her voice, but this lady gave me goose bumps with her voice and fragility and a tear for being as unique as she was 😪 Great artists will always be remembered no matter where they are or have been 😉

I don't know what happened, but when she started singing I started crying. I have never cried so spontaneously in my life. Amazing.

Nollaig O'Connor, your shy and yet so strong and passionate way of singing makes me cry. Please keep on sharing your talent with the world

If the Irish girl reads this, please don't stop singing. Screw those people, you are great and I fell in love with your voice.
