Know your subject matter, start with simple ..simple shapes.Draw from life and observation, then reference. Think in 3 dimensions in perspective, know how to extrude along a path and of course have fun!

Thank you very much man, I never though about 99 % of the stuff you explained, this pancake trick is awsome and i love how you make perspective approchable and how you keep repeting important stuff so that we think about them every tume and dont get lost. Plus i really lie your ribbon methode and how much you put gesture as something important and never forget about the flow of each subject matter and the expressivity of it! I tend to find stuff kinda boring specailly when it comes to place them in a space with perspective but you totally master how to teach this stuff and make it exciting ! Good Job man you really are my hero

This is super cool, the offhand comment about HR gigers aliens designs and their connection to lettuce really made me step back and consider how much knowledge transfers between seemingly separate subjects.

Wtf, why have I not come across your channel before!? Your instruction is fucking god-tier! I thought I'd searched out all the youtube guides on drawing "plants" and "trees", and none of them have helped half as much as this video. Maybe your keywords could use some fine-tuning? It could be that you calling this "organics" is concealing your videos from the less biologically articulate folks (me). Again, thanks so much for taking the time to share this quality instruction to the art community for no charge.

You've helped me more than you could imagine (why does nobody else teach using ribbons!?), and this is only the second lesson I've watched. I'm going to pull an all-nighter, leeching off your incredible insight. Your content deserves so much more recognition. Praise be to Loomis that by some stroke of youtube luck I was able to stumble across this goldmine of drawing theory. You're awesome man. **kowtows**

There is too little content on drawing organics and it's ridiculous. I'm currently studying product design engineering, and too little too often there is lack of reference to how to draw things like speedforms when students don't know how to control scale and convergence to make stuff like this. Honestly, thank you so much for this.

Ok so things in front are more in view so your adding more (shape) than the one's on the side and back leaves ? So what if the back leaf is folding the opposite way and I also messed up horizon line can you make it a different color I could comprehend where to put what (Leaf) when drawing. Do you think you can give drawing feedback and do we do the same with drawing food?

Hi Phils, I must say I really love these videos of yours. Very instructive, and the presence of students helps the audience immerse and be part of the lecture. Usually other channels make a video by putting together steps, clips and voiceovers that they see fit, which often ends up being too fast, but because you're talking to students we are able to follow you at a human level.

I'm about to begin my first year at FZD in Singapore and I think these lectures are going to be very helpful on all fronts. It's going to be one very packed year which brings me to the question, how does your school teach this course? Timewise, what do you expect from students weekly, how are days organized, etc. Also got any last advice before my embarkment?

Keep the great content up! :)
