Our mobile phones have become the key to our digital lives, yet the threat of SIM swaps looms large for some. This week, Josh is traveling to the US and during that time has set up an Efani eSIM for communication. How secure is this mobile service provider and is it easy to use? Finally, who would benefit most from using Efani?

Using U.S. Mobile gives you the same advantage of not giving your personal info away to the carriers. The number locking stuff has to be requested manually, and they don’t offer any sort of insurance like efani. But, U.S. Mobile has very cheap MVNO plans so

Great video. It is such a shame that these days you have to pay a high premium for decent security.

It seems like for regular people, you’re probably safe by using a SIM PIN, a PIN with your carrier to make changes, and good password. Anything else I’m missing?

Not sure if you’ve covered this, but what about a video about SIM locking. In iPhone the feature is called SIM PIN.
If you activate it, no one could use your SIM in another phone without the unlock PIN. By default the SIM PIN is often the last 4 digits of the PUK code.
But with SIM PIN you can change the code.

Thanks for the video, Josh. Helpful and informative as always. Just a note for your information and reference: Some folks may not be able to use the Efani SIM given that it "piggybacks" off the AT&T Wireless service. In the HOA where I live in the SF East Bay in Alameda County, AT&T Wireless' service is so poor that customers sometimes have to go out into the street to make a phone call. This is why many of us had to switch to Verizon for consistent and reliable coverage in this area. Cheers.

Of course you should secure your sim from getting swapped. But, if you want a phone that pretty much can’t be cracked, get a pixel. While they all have google’s titan security chip, the latest version is the most secure. Use fingerprint authentication and turn the phone off whenever you think it might fall into the hands of someone that wants into your phone. State actors included. Even Cellebrite says so.

And you can even make a pixel even more secure while using it by changing the os to grapheneos.

Doesn't sound like this is for me. But the Privacy cards Josh recommended a while back are great, very useful.
