Why Do We Continue to Embrace Pointless Stereotypes?

Many stereotypes in the black community are rooted in racism. Why are we still using them?

Society is pretty much broken. Everyone has to live up to these negative stereotypes to ''reaffirm'' their racial identity. I think the late great Stanley Crouch said it best when he lauded the late great Sidney Poitier:

"In the worst years of American racial misunderstanding, clichés and stereotypes stole the universal human truth showing itself across the lines of color, but did not stop there. They who swore by those distortions stood up, daring anyone to challenge their intentional or dangerously naïve misreading of things as they truly are."

Usually when someone is ''not acting black'', or commonly, "acting white", it is usually when they are eloquent or sophisticated, with interests in things like literature, science, opera, history or anything like that. I think it is pretty obvious that shouting someone down for being cultured or intelligent is a bad thing and trying to keep black people in a state of ignorance and ''thuggishness'' is definitely in the interests of the rich elite (of all colours). Black people who police others for being ''not black enough'' are just kapos enforcing the status quo and oppression.

Stealing, rioting, shot each other, looting store, you, yourself who keep perpetuated stereotypes.

I'm black, I'm a Metalhead and I'm Goth. I've been interested in these subcultures for 15 years. I never understood any of these stereotypes, and how black people live up to them, I just roll my eyes because it's dumb.. and continues the cycle. Every race has bad stereotypes and "good stereotypes" but I wish the goal could be to end stereotypes, racism, sexism, colorism, and worst things like peds... hopefully one day sooner tense in both words and actions.

i'm mixed. my mother is from puerto rico and my father is irish and german american, basically just a white guy from brooklyn. i never fit in with puerto ricans because i dont dance and dont speak spanish and i dont listen to the hip hop or salsa. like is that all it takes to qualify as puerto rican? i've been accepted more living in china than i did among my own people in new york.

Black people have plenty of stereotypes about white people too. It's the reason I found this video. Stereotypes in general are not beneficial to anyone black or white.

For example many Italians have embraced their stereotypes.

They feel in fact popular or some go so over the top they go beyond it. But Germans would cringe and close yourself away. They don't want to. But if one wants to should we have the right to prohibit his/her choice?
