Prices don't change but I get a little commision because I created the traffic to Amazon. I prefer this over Patreon. In this video I am testing how far I can go using the internal gas tank on a 6hp Tohatsu. This also applies to the Mercury and Nissan brands.

Just the answer I was looking for (a rough estimate on the range of the tank) thanks for that mate! Cheers :)

I like keeping my internal tank topped up as an emergency back up in case something crazy happens like main motor dies and the fuel hose gets cut or a hole in it from a fishing hook. 5 miles on the internal tank in my case with the weight is better than paddling 5 miles!! By then you’ve called for help or figured out how to get the gas from the main tank into the kicker!

I think you should've ended the video saying I wonder how going to get back to the boat ramp now-lol. I assume you had more gas hidden away in a tank somewhere. It's interesting the Mercury can maintain 16+ miles an hour over a wide range of weight. I'm using a sea Eagle paddle ski (65lbs) + 57 pounds for the 6 hp, and I'm right at 205 or so. So 327 pounds, with a few gallons of gas, roughly 340 to 350 total weight. I get about that same 16 to 17 mph.

On a lightweight boat you can sometimes change the prop to a 7.8 x 9, (stock is 7.8 x8) and that will push things along at 18 mph, but may be more difficult for heavier boats to get on plane. I have that prop, but have yet to try it out. I think I should be able to get on plane with my lightweight boat.

Great video as always! Keep em coming...

Hi Erick! I finally had a chance to try out my new Saturn SD330W with a brand new Tohatsu 6HP motor. It was my very first time operating a boat with a gasoline engine so I am very inexperience about all of that, especially in regards to the boat planing. I weight about 150lb and a buddy of mine weight is about 160lb and I don't think the boat was planing at full throttle.

Can you tell me what postion of the motor thrust shaft is your Tohatsu 6HP motor is set at? I had it at the second position.

Thanks in advance!

More useful info. Thanks Erick. How long did it go to get 10 miles?

.3 gal internal tank? So that's like 30 MPG? Insane mileage for a boat.

I have been looking at getting a new Tohatsu 6hp. And I'm getting one now. My old 2-stroke Tohatsu 6hp gets about half the range in my West Marine WaterTender 9.4 Dinghy. Good video.
