A brief discussion about how much framing detail is needed by architects and designers and how to adjust the workflow of the plugin to match the level of detail that is needed.
It would be cool to be able to hatch walls in 2d mode so we can show wall types graphically. And also, if the doors were cut out in 2d mode. In other words, if 2d mode looked the way we do floor plans in the industry, I would use it more. As it stands now, I draw a 2d floor plan like I have for over 30 years :) and then draw 3d over it.
The amount of layers/tags can be managed with SketchUp's new folder option. I have a folder standard such as
and so on. I have a template file with these already setup and with the typical tags in each folder so they geometry is automatically placed there when it is generated. This makes it easier to manage the hoards of tags that are created by the extension. :)
It's a great extension :)

Amazing program. Obviously, a tremendous amount of work to create such a program.

I appreciate the high detail... and more specifically the accurate detail. I play in the archviz world and i want to show all the detail that one would see with accuracy for purposes of accurate and high quality rendering. This is an interesting point that i dont need to show the framing which one wouldn't see for archviz but there are times that i use that to help me with placement of things as well and certainly with the thicknesses of the wall. The only real problem i have is the SKP bug of not being able to properly hide the framing through the thin walls when zoomed out but that is a SKP limitation not the plugins. I actually wish with some things like doors and windows had more detail not less... but thats personal preference and i can replace them if need be. I dont always know all the technical specs of these parts as im not an architect so this helps me add the accurate details in those ways that are more likely to be correct to the actual architects vision.

Thanks for the reminder to work in 2D for simplicity when needed. I forgot about that lightweight option.
You rock!

I really appreciate the amount of work you have put into this! I'm not a home builder but look forward to learning your extension.

Too much detail. Rubbish! As a designer, this sounds obsured. My clients are blown away because of the details of this plugin produces. Doing renos or new build with framing mode gives contractor insight into the build. Keep up the great work. Best bim tool, and one does not have to shell out 3k per year.

Is it possible to use this plug-in to create wall types other than wood framing?
I’m an architect based in Portugal and I’m planning to use SketchUp as a BIM tool for small- and medium-scale projects. Here, we typically build with brick or concrete walls.
That said, what’s most important in my particular case is being able to represent all the layers that make up these walls (such as brick, insulation, and finishes), both for layout drawings and for material take-offs.
Thanks in advance!

2D mode would be great when drawing interior walls in tight spaces. Then you could make the all 3D when you're done. Awesome.
One question, when drawing interior, non-bearing walls with a single top plate, it notches the exterior double top plate. I've tried a few setting changes and I haven't figured out how to avoid the notch.

I can see that POV, but as designer builder, the time I spend going through the framing details now is time saved not analyzing plans or taking shortcuts on site.
I will try the simplified views next time an action persists in crashing SU.

Nice! Is it very complicated to get "Superscript" for window and door call out sizes ?
I like the idea of hatching for walls.

Weak "designers" with no framing background would find lots of detail as a bad thing because it can show that they don't fully understand the structure they are creating.
I hate "designers" who don't really know how what they "design" actually goes together.
Too many of those folks use the cop out phrase, "The framers will figure it out on do it their own way."
These are "concept" designers....and it's okay if that's what level they want to be at. But complaining about TOO MUCH DETAIL is a red star cluster showcasing their lack of real-world knowledge.
I LOVE the accurate detail you provide.
Keep on with how YOU want your apps to work if YOU were building something using your app.
