My therapy dogs visit the Children’s Hospital

Sometimes a smile can make all the difference 💛

Ellie and Emma are therapy dogs and part of the @childrensnational pet therapy team, comprising over 20 volunteer dog teams and two facility dogs. Last year, this program provided 9,443 animal visitations bringing comfort and joy to patients and their families.

Normally we don’t create content when we’re in the hospital, but we wanted to show you firsthand the impact of these visits. It’s truly remarkable, but it wouldn’t be possible without your support.

As a not-for-profit institution, Children’s National counts on your generosity to provide programs such as pet, art, and music therapy. This helps kids to be kids even when they’re going through challenging times.

I nearly died when i was 10 and diagnosed with diabetes. My blood sugar was 1200 and I'd died by legal definition. My mind was fucked up because of the glucose in my blood, which had essentially turned to molasses. My father, who was my sole guardian at the time, rarely visited me for those 2 weeks. I felt alone and scared.

At one point they brought this little pug, Bella, in. She wore a tutu. It felt like a moment of clarity, where I could focus on something other than the pain and confusion. I got a polaroid of her, too. It gave one good memory to that awful time. Im so grateful for therapy dogs. I can only imagine that this little girl found a lot of comfort during their visit, and I hope she is recovering well.

So heartwarming. As a cancer survivor I know how challenging the days can be. The dog visits and personal caring of those who take time to cheer others really make a difference. I loved seeing the child's response! Thank you for making the lives of others better!

Im a peds nurse, I know first hand how very much visits with our hospitals therapy dogs helps our kiddos heal. they definitely help the staff too! its honestly the only thing I liked about dayshift! Thank you for taking the time to do this!!!

She is so precious and she was so proud to be an official dog trainer. So awesome that he brings Ellie to make the kids smile. I lost my beautiful daughter to cancer this past June and anytime u can make a smile on their face means so much.

Awww! I love it. I love that you take Ellie to visit kids who are going through so much. That girl was so happy. I was extremely sick in the hospital for a month. I missed my dog more than anything. One day the nurse came to my room and said I have a surprise for you(not my dog)it was a therapy dog. So sweet!!
