0:51 President Grant: (narrating) Thaddeus Morton was a trusted scientist in the field of Metallurgy. And also my dear friend. He never intended to be part of the madman’s scheme. He had helped him construct the gigantic spider that would threaten to take over the country. Yet he was trying to flee. This madman was Dr. Loveless, a former confederate army member who had had a terrible accident. I had to find someone to help defeat the doctor, or fail, and allow the country to bite the dust.

Something about this scene doesn't quite make sense. If the blade decapitated him while he's still standing, how could it make a cut dent on the ground afterwards?

When I saw this scene as a kid on tv I was to young to understand I didn’t see the full movie just saying but when the memory of this scene hit me when I was like 15 or 16 I did ask myself why didn’t he just move out of the way? He could have ran left or right to get out of the blades way.
