There are some expectations, but there is a lot of freedom in how you do it. I was told by a director that she wanted characters described like this: (Race SEX, Age) For example (Polish F, 24)

I've been leaving the race out on almost every character. Intro, because I wanted the casting director to simply find the most qualified actor. If your screenplay is going to be picked up by hollywood, then you have to write "any race, " where this simply wouldn't be an issue in the theater or
Indie films.
