‘Growing pile-on’ Australia amid AUKUS partnership

Prime Minister Scott Morrison thought he was flying into “friendly territory” when he touched down in New York, but he soon learned he had a “whole continent ready to shoot him down,” according to Sky News host Chris Smith.

“Our new security deal with the US and the UK is causing serious issues within the European Union,” Mr Smith said.

“When the French want to spit the dummy, they rally their comrades into the fight.

“The President of the EU Commission has picked a side, and it’s not Australia’s.”

Mr Smith said this is now “growing to become a pile-on,” and it doesn’t help the AUKUS alliance is with the European Union’s “new arch-enemy” - the British government.

“So the PM has a big job ahead of him in the US.”

I am actually a little embarresed by how much pleasure I get seeing France and the EU be completely humiliated and outplayed. The shadenfreude is strong with this one.

Our Aussie mates will get to know what the UK had to endure with Brexit - the EU is a failed project.

"We want to know what happened and why" Well what was meant to happened was a sub contract for 12 sub's costing 50 billion, built here in Australia creating local's job's and giving us the ability to build and maintain our own sub fleet, there was a time frame set and the contract was made. What actually happened was France running up the cost to 90 billion, then wanting to instead build all those sub's in France taking job's away from Australia's and giving them to their own people, and then they would have delivered the first sub 15 years late, Why we left.. well that should be obvious.

As a German this is very poor, sensationalist, reporting. German government has still not commented on this rupture days later, my guess is either unhappiness about the tone of France or because we don't want to upset UK, US or Aus, and hope it will all calm down. Italy, Dutch also silent, and some like the Poles welcomed it. The renowned French strategic anaylist Bruno Tertrais said _"From a French standpoint, the ability of our European friends to close their eyes and be in a state of denial knows no limits."_

You see Australia, you see what sort of petty childish neighbour we have to put up with? You're lucky you don't have to live by them.

Imagine spending 60, 000 lives to defend a country in two world wars that’s having a dummy spit for contract that is running 10 years late and $50billion over budget and technologically inferior. The contract had exit clauses and we used it.

Seems to me that France is no friend of Australia let alone them crying it’s the other way around.

With the Chinese communist regime being so aggressive, Australia needs the best submarines fast. Morrison did what was best for Australia. The EU have become more communist over the decades. I for one am glad to see Morrison and the UK standing up to communists. The US is currently divided, but hopefully the communists will lose in their attempt to bring down the US from within.

She wants to know the reason? It's a very simple one, woman. The French Submarines no longer fulfilled our national interests nor our defense requirements. Now. Back to this trade deal.

It's a bit rich France saying they've been stabbed in the back by an ally.

In the Falklands War France sold Exocet missiles to Argentina.

British defence systems were programmed to recognise them as "friendly" as the French didn't bother telling the UK they were arming our enemy.

Thanks, France.

Tough luck.

Von Der Layan's career has been a litany of mistakes and disaster. Don't be taking the slightest notice of anything she ever says. Good luck Aussies, enjoy your new submarines!! We've got your backs. (From your friends in U.K.)

From day one, it became most obvious that the French submarine debacle was not fit for purpose. Someone should ask Turnbull what the hell he was playing at.
